It is seldom that one can come to COJ and not find a genuine thought provoking thread. I'm curious as to why we should find so many "thinkers" on one site. Cast your vote or add your own reason.

I was very suprised at the amount of thought provoking threads on this site several months ago. Now, not so much. I am impressed that so many of us are readers, and our favorite activities (outside of tri) are similar.

The past tense was used because nothing on this site suprises me anymore.

People on this site are active participants in the things they do (like tri's) whereas the general population is much more passive, simply absorbing whatever food, entertainment, etc. passes in front of them.

Thought provoking is good, but I get irritated and cranky too easily.  I really should stay away from them the moment I feel that way.  It's far too easy to insult or be insulted when you're passionate about something that means a lot to you.

Maybe I should just medicate myself.

I beg to differ.  I'm proof positive you don't have to be smart.

I answered "We are all very self-centerd and think our opinions are deep".  That's why I try to be a contrarian wherever I can.  All those self-centered thinkers need to be challenged.

Also, I think a lot of it has to do with how Ron set this up, and how moderators like marmadaddy keep it flowing.  It's a really tough thing to do on an internet forum; create a space where everyone feels some sense of ownership and where there still are lines between the appropriate and the inappropriate.
