Good Morning Everyone!
My name is Jon Ashworth and I am new to this site. I am 30 years of age and currently live in Mobile, Al. I dabbled in Triathlons a little while I was in college, but soon quit due to the workload I was taking. Now I am back in the game. I have run a few marathons and alot of 1/2 marathons over the past few years. However, I am now interested in doing more.
I am actually going to pick up my new bike this afternoon! I am a decent rider and have no problem going certain distances. Running is also one of my better traits. However, swimming is my downside and I sink like a rock. I look forward to putting them all together come race day. Whichever race that may be.
Anyway, if anybody reading this is close to my area I would enjoy getting together to train. Or just meeting someone new.
I am a banker here in ttown and my wife is an attorney. She has run quite a few marathons and halfs with me as well.
I look forward to chatting with all of you and WELCOME ANY TIPS AND ADVICE you have to give.
Talk to ya'll soon!!!

Welcome! Good luck in your training. Check out the "triathlon talk" section for swimming tips, and the home page - there is quite a bit of info!

Welcome!  Rocks are right at home in water, so don't fret.  The trick is to evolve from a rock to a fish . . .

Good luck with the training.

Im from alabama too! (station in NC for now)
dont worry about the swim, i literally could not swim 4 months ago, and now I am doing sprint distance tri's in about 1hr 12 min or so. The swim is still my worst sport but it sounds like you are athletic so I'm sure you will pick it up fast too!

Hey Alabama, I'm from Mobile too. My good friend and I are training for a 1/2 Ironman in August. We are also going to do the Grandman in June. What about you?

Actually Sylvia I am returning to the sport. I have taken a few years off. The last marathon I ran ended me up with a bad knee injury. Basically I am starting from ground zero again (except for the running aspect of it). Where is the 1/2 Ironman being held at?

hello there mobile, pensacola here. looks like the south is popping up all of the sudden. i'm doing the grandman too. i was there yesterday and could see your city across the bay. looks like that climb might be kind of brutal. i'll see you there maybe. you'll have to look over your shoulder though because i'll be near the back. happy training and racing. 1/2 ironman... hmm. sounds heady.

The 1/2 Ironman is in California. It is called Barb's race and it is the same day as the Vineman (August 14). So sorry about the knee injury. I strained my shoulder recently when I bumped up my swimming distance too soon. We swim at the Y on Downtowner. We recently did a nice bike ride over on Dauphin Island (low traffic, low fear) o you have areas that you like to bike? One of my biggest concerns is getting run over by speeding motorists.

I am from Hattiesburg, Ms. About 90 miles up highway 98 from you. If you are ever up this direction, we have a 42 mile rail trail that is good for practicing time trials and doing speed work for flat races. Small group of triathletes here (but most are pretty good with me being the exception LOL).

Kathy,

I am actually going to be out of town the first half of that day. I was just at the cycle shop and heard some people talking about it. I am jealous! Hope you have a strong race and GOOD LUCK!! Let me know how you finish.

Jon :-)
