just wanted to crow about my training yesterday. I decided to try for the first time to do a full sprint distance trial run, tranistions and all (to a degree).

well.. biked 14km to the pool very lightly.. jumped in.. set myself up and boom I was off. One hour and 39 minutes later I had completed a 750/20/5 without stopping.. resting or walking. I actually got a little emotional when I had finished.. not Ironman emotional, but a little overwhelmed by finally achieving what I set out to do 6 months ago.

I know this isnt an event.. which will be totally different, but to work so hard for something and finally do it.. its an amazing feeling.

Im still huge.. 295lb down from 319lb.. really need to drop more weight.

It can be done.. it is just a lot of work.. my first tri was going to be Aug 30, but there is one on Aug 2 that I think I will do first instead.

Congratulations on your progress.  I've been told that there is biking and there is running but biking, then running is a whole other animal.  Because of that, I set up each Sunday to be an increasingly harder mini-tri based on my final Olympic.  This week was only 30% of the final but it sure is harder to do all three than it is to do them individually.

thank you ! I was going to try and do this every sunday, but there is no way.. I am still a little sore from it, and not training at the same level a couple of days afterwards.. but a cut down version might be the go.. thanks for the idea.. Laughing

I practice getting on and off the bike, with shoes clipped in every day.. and like to practice mini tranistions as much as possible. I even went no socks on this trial run on the bike and run.. all went fine except a couple of blisters on the tops of my toes.

Great job

I did my first practice Sprint Race in late June just to give me and idea of my training level. I sucked. Then I did a second practive event last saturday and I improved my swim & bike times by 4 minutes each but I had to skip the run due to knee pain.  So now that I am now swimming freestyle I am sure my swim time will come down even more.  I have another practice race set for next weekend and that will be my last one prior to going live on 16 August.  My goals for my first race are to
#1  finish
#2 time better than 2 hrs
#3 not to finish last,
#4  Not to get hurt

Great work!  You've climbed the biggest hill, keeping yourself motivated. Race day is easy, there's people around and cow bells and all sorts of things to distract you from your sore feet, or your bike problems or whatever. But on  a training day the only thing pushing you is you. Once your brain think you can do it your body has been ready for weeks.

Nice effort!  Your times look good and your log looks good.  The sad truth about losing the weight is watching your food consumption carefully, but it looks like you're already making great progress.  Keep it up!

Good job - I only dropped 20 pounds on my first tri - 285 to 265 .... (I'm 5' 8") and this past year I actually lost only 5 pounds before the same tri (of course I spent a week in Mexico prior to that tri)....

Keep up the good work and the weight will come off!

you dropped 20 during a tri ? holy crap ;-) well done man.. I can feel myself getting just that tiny bit quicker for every bit of weight that comes off.

just never give up man.. try to do as much as you can as often as you can.. My goals when I first decided to do this were very similar to yours. I just hope that when I do the Tri all the hard work pays off...
