Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Any groups heading to lake lanier anytime soon? I searched this section of the forums and all of the swims that came up were already done. I haven't don't any ows in years and wanted to do some before the lake lanier tri in october. I actualy live up the street from lake lanier islands but I don't know anything about the area. I see something about mary alice park but wasn't sure if that was something you could just go to anytime. If anyone is heading up there soon for a swim let me know I'd love to join in since I don't realy know the area or the lake. chris |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A few friends and I do some OWSs at Tribble Mill Park in Grayson. We have a kayak out there and sometimes a friend from UGA Tri comes out. We aren't great swimmers but it helps, plus you don't have to worry about a Cigarette slamming you in the head. Officially swimming isn't allowed but even with bicycle cops out there I have never had a problem. But I stay off the lake with the boat ramp and go to the smaller more secluded lake right next door. Tribble Mill is basically a lawless park. I know we'll go sometime next week but I'm not sure what day. People are welcome to come and if someone knows how to roll I have an old Peception Dancer that they can use too. |

I've been to tribble mill a few times with my dog just walking on the paved path so I know where it is. The small lake is the one on the right as you are driving in next to the bridge correct? If you guys are going let me know, I have jurty duty monday so bailing from work early any other day will probably annoy someone but oh well (that and I am leaving early today to go to all3sports to get new riding shoes haha) Please refer to any kayaks as canoes or I'll want to buy one.. I was about to get one earlier this year but then got my dog and didn't want to have to leave her home if I Was going out, then I got the dumb idea to do a tri and so all extra money is tied up in that. But if you are looking to sell it for a good price ![]() but yeah let me know about going to tribble mill I am interested. |

Put it on my calendar and should be able to make it as far as I know. MAP is only about 15 miles from my house, never been there but that seems to be a common place people meet. Local pool is only open 2 days a week during times I can really fit it in, so the more swimming the better and definitely want to get some ows practice in, it has been more than 10 years since I last did an ows of any kind other then going to the beach. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There are always alot of triathletes at Mary Alice park on Saturday mornings. I don't fear swimming alone there. Last Sauturday around 7:30-8AM there were probably a half-dozen people swimming the bouys. If you go anytime from about 6:30AM to 8:30AM there will almost always be other people swimming. And most of them bike and run afterwards as well. It's only $4 to park or you can buy a $25 annual pass. |

Great to hear, I didn't see anything on here when I searched about regulars being there and lake lanier swimming searches on google get you more hits then the word "boob" Swimming alone is not an issue (yes I am aware random stuff can happen) by my third day back in the water after 11 years out I was doing 2 miles in just over an hour so I am a strong swimmer. My issue with new stuff is just anxiety of finding it or someone telling me I can't be here, swim here etc. Seriously if I went by myself the first time and no one was there I'd spend 90% of the time making sure some sheriff wasn't waiting on the shore to yell at me when i got out. If the pup is feeling better and I make it to all3sports tonight for my shoes instead of in the morning I'll try and make it to map. I can only stare at the speedplay box for so long before I duct tape the cleats to my mtb shoes... Thanks for the tip. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I made it out just not as early as I hoped, usually at my place in buford on fridays but GF had a fundraiser for work we went to in decatur so I was down in atlanta at her place. Was in the water at map around 7:45 or so I think. 2 other guys were there, I caught one name john but no the other one. A third person showed up towards the end but he was always out of cycle so didn't catch his name either. anyone have any idea of the distance between the furthest buoys? someone said they measured and got .24 miles I thought he said but then looking at my times (3:40-3:45) there is no way it is that far. Maybe I mixed it up and it was .42 there and back? |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() where is mary alice park? also, if you don't want to drive out to all3sports, there is a tri store by stone mountain park called triyourbest. they are on W Park Place across from the K&G Store (kinda behind BK) great people and good service! their website is triyourbest.net |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been told 400 meters from shore out to 1st bouy and around to the last bouy. But it seems slightly shorter than that to me as well. That would make first to last bouy about 300 meters. I generally count from shore, 2 laps around the bouys and back to shore as about 1400 meters, but it's probably a little short. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() hmm if its 300 meters that could be about right, maybe a little quick on my times.. I actually just went to sat view on google maps and measured it out, not super easy since they are bowed but it looks like 200m from end to end are there 4 buoys or 5 I can't recall only see 4 on the map. I'd say between 200 and 300 not 400 about 50 from shore to the first buoy if by first you are using the southernmost one. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I ended up going this morning even though I half remembered about tomorrow as I was rolling myself out of bed. I think I am becoming addicted to swimming though since I wanted to get back in the water by the time I got home (after I picked up a cyclist with a flat and drove him home). really tempted to go tomorrow to just so I can get in the water again so you'll probably see me there. I'll look just like my avatar pic which is really annoying on this page since every other post is mine ![]() |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi folks, The weather is a little questionable, but the forecast is better this morning than it was last night. For the Cumming, Ga area I see cloudy and 10-20% chance of rain for the 9am - 10am time frame, therefore I say we are ON. Hope to see you there. Bill |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It was nice meeting you guys that came out last week to MAP. Dr has ordered me off my feet, no running or riding till sometime early next week so I plan to hit up MAP probably both saturday and sunday morning. I am flexible as long as it is earlier in the morning since I have stuff to do later in the day. If anyone else wanted to head out but didn't want to be alone just let me know and I'll plan to be there around that time. |
