I had planned to but I haven't registered yet. I usually race all the downtown races but have been very busy this year. I paced my 10 & 8 year-old sons at this race last year--it was a lot of fun. Hilly. I'll decide tonight or tomorrow.

Ya, I've yet to register as well.  But I really need to get SOME kinda race in.  Since the only race I have this year is a 5k from 4th of July.  I think a race will help with a tid bit of motivation.  Even though I'm still early in training and a 10k is goin to be much more of a challenge to me than to others on this site.  Also tryin' to coax some other individuals from my unit to run with me.  Hope to see some others there.

I'm in Fayetteville.  I've already done three 5Ks this year and I'm not ready for a 10K, so I hadn't planned on that one.  And it's SO HOT!

I'm only running 5 miles now but am scheduled for my first 10K in October and a Half Marathon in December.

The last race I did downtown was indeed hilly.  Not only that...... (ready for rant)

Towards the end of the race when I got to the to of the hill the traffic cop made me STOP AND WAIT for traffic to go through!  By then two more people caught up with me.  I heard the lady behind me say, "this isn't fair," as we jogged in place waiting for the cop to let us go.

I emailed the race officials about what happened and they appologized.  They said the cops were supposed to hold traffic so the runners could run freely.  They even offerred me free registration for next year.  I'll never know what my true timing would have been if I hadn't had to stop for traffic.  That was the Race for Hope.

Wow... that's really stupid... being forced to stop during a race?  What's the point if you're goin' to get stopped so the people behind you can catch up and the people infront of you can increase their lead... wierd...

Well?  Did anyone do this race?  I guess the weather held this morning, but storming at my house now.

Just curious how the event went...

Yep, was a fun race and although I've done that course a few times, it never gets old...well except maybe the hills

It started maybe a little too late because the heat was pretty rough even at that time, but there were a LOT of people running and the weather held thankfully.

To the girl in the purple shirt that was supposed to try and keep up with me, looks like it turned out the other way. Thanks for the motivation

Great job nhangen!!!

I admit I felt kind of left out knowing there was a race in town.  But today was my day off and I took advantage of it.  I read the entire book, Marathoning of Mortals.  Great read!  Now I'm looking for a marathon next year! ... and I can't even run 6 miles yet.  But time is on my side, and I will be ready on race day.

Better to have a big goal and fail than little goals that don't stretch your ability to achieve. Great job reading today...now maybe I'll see you at the OBX Mary this Nov?

Cool -- you're running the OBX mary! I'm scheduled to run it -- haven't registered yet. But I've had old knee injuries flare up the past couple of weeks, waiting for my therapist to diagnose & give me the thumbs up or down.

Great race today! I skipped it this year.

Just a run to support the Red Cross I think. There was a huge concert planned, but I'm betting the rain got in the way of that.

Oh my, not THIS November, but I do believe next November for sure!  I have less than a year of running under my belt.  Completed Couch to 5K on March 7.  I'm currently only running in the 5 mile range.  I'm scheduled for first 10K at NC State October 24 and working towards the half marathon in Charlotte on December 12.  So full marathon will come AFTER that.

Of all the marathons in NC that I've looked at the one at the Outer Banks looked best and most fun!  I am quite certain that will be on my calendar next year.

My only disappointment was that I wanted to plan one sooner, but the two in March are both described as VERY hilly.  I can handle some hills, but I don't want to be overwhelmed by them and I want my first marathon to be a fun experience.

Maybe as my training increases, I'll do a few runs on these other two courses just see how hilly they really are.

Ellerbe Springs Marathon & Umstead Trail Marathon.

Have any of ya'll run either of these?

Oh, great.  Now ya'll planted the seed and it is poking at me.

Now I'm sitting here wondering If I can get from 5 miles to half marathon ready by November 8.

And I have two Triathlons to deal with in this timeframe.

Longest I've ever run was 5.8 miles.

Hmmm...

Hmmm...

A couple friends told me about their first 13.1.  They had been running 6-8 miles in training and had completed a few 10Ks when they saw a flyer for the 13.1 ,which was a month or so away.  They were able to squeeze in one 10 miler before the race and everything went pretty well until about 9 miles when they started to struggle.  At about 10 miles the conversation went something like this:

S: "What does runner's high feel like?"
Y: "I don't know.  Why?"
S: "I think I'm having it."
Y: "What's it like?"
S: "I can't feel my legs..."

They both staggered to the finish and for the next few days they blamed each other for signing up in the first place.  When the soreness went away they imagined it was pretty fun.

So, yeah, you should TOTALLY sign up and let us know how it goes.

Oh, I had already decided against it.  I'm going to stick with the one on December 12.

I did some soul searching and took a good hard look at my running history and decided to stick with the half marathon on December 12 which will help build my running base and weekly mileage; and better position me to start a marathon program next year in time for the Outer Banks in November.

Then I'm going to run like a cheetah!  Or maybe like a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter. But eaither way I'm going to run, run, run...!

That may be the smart thing, but bad decisions make good stories.
