Subject: What went wrong? (bad training ride)Today on my planned bike ride I came within calling the ambulance. I'm still not sure what it was and hopefully its a one time thing. I left and had a very small cramp on the right stomach. I thought nothing of it and went on my ride. It progressively got worse, and after about 10 miles my cramp was now my whole stomach area and my right lower back. I decided to stop and turn around but it was too late. About 4 miles short of where I parked the pain was so bad I just got off my bike and layed there in pain. My abdominal muscles were tight and I'd get pains where it felt like someone was hitting me in the stomach with a sledgehammer. I did find it disturbing about 40 people passed me while I was on the ground and only one asked if I was okay. I ended up calling my wife, who picked me up. According to her I was dehydrated and stopped sweating. I never felt dehydrated, and drank plenty prior. Also, this was only 10 miles into a ride, though it was 97 degrees out, but I've ridden in that temperature quite a bit without any problems. I had the symptoms of dehydration but it didn't add up for me. I did eat a burger and fries for lunch, and a frappuccino for breakfast. I think it may have something to do with it but I seem to be in the minority. |
