just saw flyers posted on the silver comet trail this morning talking about a celebration for the completion of the silver comet trail all the way to the alabama state line.  It starts at the line at 2pm.  (food, music, etc)  Stated to expect lots of traffic that day as many will be riding out, celebrating, and riding back.

I won't be there since I'm racing this weekend, but thought it would be fun for others to do.

From the website:

"It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here - the completed Silver Comet/Chief Ladiga Trail, stretching 95 miles from Atlanta to Anniston, Alabama. We'd love for you to join us at the Grand Opening festivities, including an historic 61.5-mile ride. For complete details, head over to the Silver Comet page."

The last section was completed in August. That means it took ~10 years to complete as planned. Shows how difficult it is to acquire land, even on an old railbed. Building in and around the city will be that much more difficult, but PATH is doing just that. They are awesome.

The Silver Comet is done, but it's actually continuous from Cumberland mall via the Silver Comet connector, and will soon head down Atlanta road and connect to the Whetstone creek trail.
