I hanging out in the city yesterday and walked by the Dolphin swmin and boat club. I have heard of the club before but I never thought of swimming here. I noticed that it appears that anyone can just go to the beach here and swim? Is that the case or do you have to be a member? Also, does anyone know where I can pick up a used wetsuit to swim at the club? The water is really cold and I don't want to jump in and right back out. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you...J

I've been there a few times. It's very cool and full of history, its been there forever. Anyone can go, just ring the bell and be patient and someone will let you in. Fill out the little envelope at the door and put in your $6 day-use fee. Be sure to check out all the old photos.

The Dolphin Club and the South End Rowing Club (right next door) are open to the public on alternate days. They have an agreement of some sort with the SF Parks and Rec department. The Dolphin Club just renovated their showers (very nice) and the people who are members there are very friendly. Just don't wear your wetsuit in the locker room, they don't like that.

As far as wetsuits to use, I don't think so but I have seen some hanging out there by the dock. You should certainly check it out. The water is as warm as it is going to get there, it's probably about 60, so if you are going to swim sans wetsuit, now is the time...

pm me if you have any questions or if you want to meet there sometime and do a swim...
