Is anybody doing this race? I'm considering it but it's about 2 hours away for me which is a long way to drive. The active.com site says the course is beautiful but don't they all? I was just wondering if any of you have done the Beast of the East 1/2 IM and know anything about the course and if it would be worth the drive from downtown. Thanks!

I did the HIM up there in September. The Half Mary would be a double loop course. Read my RR if you want the fun version of it, if not, here you go....

- Two loops
- On the way out, there will be rollers and really only one climb, then come down to the top of the dam, down the beast, out into the corn fields (short out & back), rollers to the breakpont, then turn-around
- On the way back, it will be slight uphill (more of a false flat), then you will have to climb the Beast up to the dam, dam is flat, and one climb after the dam
Then, rollers back to the start, and repeat

I have to check to course, but I would guess it is the same as the HIM.

My RR has a lot more details, but the run would be pretty fast if you had not just swam 1.2 and bike 56 mile before hand. The best view will be from the top of the dam. VERY nice view!!

Let me know if you have any further questions.
