Subject: advertising policy

What is the limit on self promotion on this site? I know some coaches have their own areas that its allowed.

My question is it ok for someone to post a thread about a race/training and then someone else who owns/runs a tri training group (that people pay to join) to chime in and say "My group is doing "x" race or training. Come join!"

Its more than slightly annoying to start a thread or wander into one (state forums) and see these postings. Is there some requirement that they need to identify themselves in their sig line and not self promote?

What you describe is spam and is definitely not allowed here.

Here are the first two paragraphs of our Terms of Service:

You may use or download material displayed on Beginnertriathlete.com for noncommercial, personal use only. If you download material, you must retain all copyright and other proprietary notices displayed on the materials. You may not distribute, modify, transmit, post, or otherwise use the content of Beginnertriathlete.com for public or commercial purposes without the permission of Beginnertriathlete.com. Beginnertriathlete.com reserves the right to refuse service and terminate accounts if we believe that your conduct violates these Terms.

Beginnertriathlete.com services are made available for your personal, non-commercial use only. You may not use the Beginnertriathlete.com services to sell a product or service, or to increase traffic to your Web site for commercial reasons, such as advertising sales. You may not take the results from a search and reformat and display them.

Our Terms of Service page also has the rules for Commercial Users clearly delineated. We encourage participation from people in the triathlon and general fitness industries, but we obviously can't let the forums be used as a free marketing platform. It would degrade the usefulness of the forums (as you note) and it certainly isn't fair to those companies who pay for advertising with us.

Personally I'd be very wary of handing money to anyone who advertises their services by spamming an internet forum.
