Playa del Run - Biathlon (swim/run)

Swim
Comments: Mass start - wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I must have gone a couple hundred extra yards. One of the buoys was supposed to be reached swimming parallel to the shore, but I was so far out by that point that I had to swim perpendicular to the shore to get to it (I counted 100 strokes to do this). By the time I got back on track I had to swim through a lot of slower swimmers. What would you do differently?: I swim to the left. I have to aim far to the right next time so as not to go so far off course. Transition 1
Run
Comments: Whoa, running right out of the swim was hard for me. I just didn't get a chance to catch my breath. Run on grass was difficult, the surface was very uneven with tree roots and holes. But the shade of trees was nice. Something about running around the cones on the grass at the turnarounds reminded me of grade school games. Post race
Event comments: The race was more informal in nature, and there weren't age group divisions. It just wasn't a great day for me, performance-wiise, but that happens. The race was fun, and since it is a series of six swim/run races, hopefully another of them will fit into my schedule. Last updated: 2005-05-23 12:00 AM

Bad Morning -
Missed my freeway exit, then finally got on the right freeway, but going the wrong way.
I tried to stop for coffee, but the coffee shop wasn't open.
I was distracted by some of the signs for the event, and entered in the exit, which had those spiky things that actually do flatten tires if you go over them the wrong way (3 of 4 of mine).
The parking meter ate $2.
