Subject: ESR Tecumseh Ride Times - CHANGED

As per Alex R.:

Some start times have changed. Please read because these ride times are effective immediately! This weekend rides are starting earlier.

East Side Rides
All rides leave from the Zehrs parking lot near the Bicycle Shop, Second Cup and Tecumseh BBQ. This is the corner of Manning road and Tecumseh road.

East Side Riders, regular rides:

  • Tuesday 10:00 am - "The Morning Crew" Ride - Speeds are determined by those that show up. Usually a social style ride.
  • Tuesday 6:00 pm - Espresso Ride - Bring it, this one is fast. Speed is the goal!
  • Tuesday 6:00 pm - Coffee Ride - This is a great ride for those who like a paceline and want to feel a bit of speed. No man left behind ride. The group will slow after sprints and intersections to allow everyone a fair chance to get back into the pack. You must make the effort to catch back up. If you are constantly falling off the back, you are not ready yet.
  • Wednesday 6:00 pm - Decaf ride - This is a no drop social ride. This ride is friendly to those who are new to group cycling (it is not friendly to those new to cycling! You should have some cycling experience) Please note: Although this ride is no drop, you need to be able to hold 30 kph in the pack. Do not expect the group to go below 25 kph, that is too slow for road riding. Also speeds will not exceed 30 kph (except for sprints to stop signs and bridges)
  • Thursday 10:00 am - "The Morning Crew" Ride - Speeds are determined by those that show up. Usually a social style ride.

  • Saturday 9:00 am - Coffee ride - Distance is the name of the game on this ride. The group will slow after sprints and intersections to allow everyone a fair chance to get back into the pack. You must make the effort to catch back up. If you are constantly falling off the back, you are not ready yet.
  • Saturday 9:30 am - Decaf - This is a no drop social ride. This ride is friendly to those who are new to group cycling (it is not friendly to those new to cycling! You should have some cycling experience) Please note: Although this ride is no drop, you need to be able to hold 30 kph in the pack. • Sunday 9:00 am - Coffee ride - Distance is the name of the game on this ride. The group will slow after sprints and intersections to allow everyone a fair chance to get back into the pack. You must make the effort to catch back up. If you are constantly falling off the back, you are not ready yet.
  • Sunday 9:00 am - (The Malden Park Main Parking Lot) - Cyclocross or Mountain bike ride through Malden and Morton Terminal. (When the Trails dry up)
  • Special Event Rides are coordinated and developed at different times through out the year. They are just variations of the above rides. Some may add distances, some just a special stop for lunch, sometimes it may just be a holiday that will be a good day to ride. Watch your email for these events.

All rides start out the season at lower end of the expected speeds. By the end of the season the top limits are getting pushed. Be aware of this and get out early in the spring to build back up.
Helmets are required (no exceptions).
Lights are required when rides may get close to dusk or start before dawn (as per the law).
No head phones are to be worn in the pack. (no exceptions and also as per the law)
No gator aid bottles in the cages (they don't fit, they fall out, and cause accidents).
If you need to answer your phone, pull out and fall off the back before answering it.
No riding areo bars in the pack (Clarification: riding areo bars is accepted as long as you are on the front pulling. If the second line rider says he isn't getting a draft and ask you to pull off or sit up, do it, don't blow him up).
Carry a spare tube. If you don't have a spare tube and pump, don't expect others to give you theirs. They may not want to take the risk of riding with out one.

Before joining one of these rides, you should be aware of local cycling laws. You should be familiar with how to ride and handle your bicycle. You should always wear a helmet. You should know your abilities on a bicycle. You should be of age and ability to make decisions for yourself and your safety. You should be able to complete basic roadside repairs or be able to get yourself home if the need arises.

You are responsible for your own actions. We are only providing a way to communicate and meet with other cyclists. You make the decision if you would like to, or if it safe for you to ride. Although some riders may give others helpful hints on rides, they are not coaches or instructors and should not be seen as coaches or instructors. We are all just friends cycling together. Each individual on these rides is responsible for his or her own actions.

If you require lessons, coaching, special instructions or help with cycling or cycling equipment, please contact your local bike shop.

I LOVE the Saturday morning decaf ride.  GREAT group of people!  We got in just short of 70 km last  week.
