![]() Swim
Comments: I thought I was going to die when I reached the first buoy. I knew this would be my weakest event. Plowed through the angst and mixed freestyle with sidestroke. Felt good coming out of the water when I knew there were many in my wave behind me. Definitely need to work on stroke and breathing for next tri. What would you do differently?: Spend more time in the water! It's easy to work on the things we love doing and very difficult to work on those we don't enjoy. Overall, my swim time was better than I thought it would be. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: 500M run from the swim to transition. Took to long to get into socks and shoes for bike. Also 200M from transition to bike. Took Gu to get more energy for the ride. Tough to run 200M in bike shoes. What would you do differently?: Work on getting into shoes when clipped on bike. ![]() Bike
Comments: First time riding in wet conditions and didn't want to wipe out. Legs felt good except that I could start to feel both my calves begin to cramp up. Never had cramp problems but was concerned I'd have to get off bike to work them out. Had to slow down a couple times to take in electrolites and massage my calves. Other than that, legs and cardio felt good. I passed a lot of people and only had 2 people pass me on the ride. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: What I thought were decent transitions weren't that good compared to others. Looking back, if I could knock 30 seconds of each transition I would've ended up in the top 5 for my age group. What would you do differently?: Just gotta be quicker in all transitions. ![]() Run
Comments: Running is usually a strong suit for me and I really didn't feel like I ran that well. I was really surprised when I saw I was 20 overall. I'm used to running on hilly pavement and thought the mud slowed me down more than it actually did. I guess triathlons are 50% mental while the other 1/2 is in your head. What would you do differently?: Could've had a stronger kick at the end. Pace was good but would've liked to have picked it up more in the last mile. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Stretched legs. Food was provided so drank diet Coke and ate banana and cookie. Stopped at Starbucks for BIG latte to get warm because it was chilly in the rain. What limited your ability to perform faster: Gotta work on swim stroke. Event comments: Real happy with my Triathlon. Registered for the next one October 2. To bad the weather wasn't great, but all the volunteers hung in there and really did a great job. Last updated: 2005-09-12 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:00am to get to race at 6:00. Breakfast included toast with peanut butter, banana, and water. Powerbar and Gatorade on the way to the race. Set up transition area during drizzle, walked through transitions and headed for warmup.
Stretched as best as I could. I was wound up since this was my first triathlon. Did a short jog to loosen up and got into the water for a short swim prior to start. Got cold after swim warmup do to rain and delay in race start.
