![]() Run
Comments: It was so freaking cold that I ran faster than normal in the beginning to warm up. I never saw the first mile marker so didn't know what my pace was. When I finally saw a marker, at mile 2, I realized I was going too fast and slowed down some. When I saw mile 3, I walked for a few seconds because I knew there was no reason at all to run faster than my goal pace of 10 minutes a mile. I'm sure others will disagree with me, but I didn't want to risk burning out just to shave a few seconds off an already great (for me) pace. What would you do differently?: Eat breakfast, and go to the bathroom beforehand. I had to pee but didn't want to leave the warm car to go, so I was uncomfortable for the entire run. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Hopped in the car and headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just training. Event comments: You'd think that since the Webster Turkey Trot was founded 33 years ago, it would be more highly evolved. With the number of runners, they really need to be more organized, such as having signs to tell you where to go register, where the start line is, etc. They are treating it like a tiny community race, but it's grown too big for that. It's not safe, either. The roads were left open to traffic, there were cars riding through the start line a couple minutes before we were to take off, and we were running across roads with traffic coming and no volunteers or police there to direct it. Overall Rank = 454/532
Age Group = F 30-34
Age Group Rank = 19/30
The race started at 10am, registration ended at 9:30am, and at 8:30am I was dashing upstairs to change into my running clothes, finally deciding for sure to actually do the race. I neglected to eat breakfast.
Jogged for a couple minutes to the car, then sat in there with the heater blasting for 15 minutes before the race started.
