                    ![]() Run
Comments: Since this was my very first race I didn't know what to expect. My "plan" was to go easy the first mile then pick it up for the second and then go all out the last. My realistic goal was to do better than 12 min miles so am happy with the result. Had to walk the first bit till the crowd thinned out and I had running room. The first mile was tough with the typical thoughts ("what the **** am I doing here", "**** this hurts", etc.). By the second mile things smoothed out and things got easier. What would you do differently?: A better warmup would probably make the first mile easier. I need to adopt a warmup routine that will warm me up without sapping to much of my limited endurance capability. Start nearer the front of the pack ![]() Post race
Warm down: Bananas and hot chocolate, walk in circles. What limited your ability to perform faster: 25 years of sloth. Last updated: 2006-02-11 12:00 AM

Wake up, eat some oatmeal, drive to race (1+ hours), drink some sport drink right before race.
Does walking around the start area shivering count as a warmup
