C3 had an incredible day at the 2006 Canadian National Duathlon Championships in Hamilton Ontario winning four National Titles (Andrew Yorke National Junior Champion; Jennifer Coombs 20-24, Bob Knuckey 55-59 and Louise McGonigal). Silver medals went to Andre Paul Baillargeon-Smith (elite men 2nd fastest overall), Mark Herbsts (50-54 men), Carrie Heldman (35-39 women) and Dave Watts (65-69). Joining Andrew Yorke on the Junior National Team are Andrew Woegerer (2005 National Jr Triathlon Silver medalist), Chad Ruby and Brittany Hern. "Our juniors were incredible today showing the rich talent pool that C3 has developed" said the Barrie Shepley.
"The athletes and coaching staff were absolutely amazing at the 2006 National Duathlon Championships" said head coach Barrie Shepley. The weather conditions in Hamilton were absolutely brutal. 50km winds, rain and snow pelletts were in the faces of the athletes throughout the event. "No club in Canada was close to C3's amazing performances" said Shepley. From Junior (4 team members), elite men, and age group success, C3 showed its dominance at the 2006 Championships.
"The athletes have worked incredibly hard over the winter and they deserve the great success they achieved this weekend" said Shepley. Shepley credited the coaching staff of Garrett Magill, Mike Amaral, Hans Porten, Bob Knuckey, Peter Hein, Miguel Vadillo, Brian Kelly, Andrew Cole and Caron Shepley for their incredible contributions to the athletic performances. "The warm-weather camp we had in Florida in March and April made a huge difference in the success of the athletic performances" of the club today" said Shepley.
World Class success does not come without a cost and C3's elite athletic success has been a club affair. Starting with the support from the C3 Board, the coaching staff and the great sponsorship of Geosign, Enterprise Car and Rental, Caledon Hill Cycling, Personal Best, Kinetico and Dornealis Cycling Shop.
"We saw many examples of team-mates supporting each other out there today" said Shepley. "Elite athlete Sean Bechtel put his head down and pulled A.P. Smith on the last 10km of the elite men's bike to give him a chance of being the national duathlon champion" said coach Shepley. A.P. was able to use his amazing running abilties to become the National elite silver medalist. The Juniors stood out in the cold cheering on the elites and age groupers on a day where the 50km winds and cool air and rain made spectating a major chore. "I was incredibly proud of the entire club today" said Barrie Shepley.

The C3 athletes will now be focused on the May 28th Kinetico Caledon Kids of Steel Triathlon, the July 1st and 2nd HSBC Brampton National Elite Championship, the July 9th National Junior Championships in Edmonton, the July 29th World Duathlon Championships in Cornerbook Newfoundland and the Sept 1st World Triathlon Championships in Lausanne Switzerland.
