Age Group Rank = 5/27
Pre-race routine:

Slept bad the night before, ended up getting up about 6:10. Shower, PowerBar & water, read Star magazine for about 10 min. Loaded bike in car and got to race site about 7AM.
Event warmup:

No warmup, I planned to ride about 10 min but ended up taking too much time getting body marked and setting up.
Swim
  • 8h 00m
  • 440 yards
  • 1h 49m 05s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

I think I'll start a bit closer to the front of my group next time. Also need to get more swim workouts in.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 was good overall
What would you do differently?:

Just need to practice transitions more
Bike

Comments:

Bike was good overall. I was riding my 4 day old tri bike and I held back since I was not used to the bike yet. It really felt SO much faster than my now-retired mountain bike. I was pretty amazing! I didn’t really get much water either since I cut the straw on the aero bottle since I thought it was too long..oops! The only bad part of the bike was that I stopped short behind someone coming into T2 and fell from not unclipping 2nd foot quick enough. I got up really fast, but was a little rattled…
What would you do differently?:

Well I will obviously ride a lot more before next race to adjust to new bike. Get more aggressive and stay in aero bars more. Unclip both feet quicker to avoid falling again.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 was maybe the worst part of race. I was a little annoyed that I fell getting off my bike. I was trying to wipe the dripping blood off my hand & leg and was kinda slow. Smeared some body glide on the cuts to help stop bleeding..kinda worked.
What would you do differently?:

Be more careful coming into T area…unclip. Maybe put some paper towels near my stuff so if I need to grab them they’ll be available. It would have been nice to run with them so I didn’t have to worry about my scraped up hand.
Run
  • 20m
  • 2 miles
  • 10m  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good despite being overly concerened with my bleeding hand and knee...
What would you do differently?:

Need to do more brick workouts and more long runs each week
Post race
Warm down:

Not much cool down. Found parents and husband, ate a banana and got some water. The first aid was kind of scare at the finish. I found 2 EMT’s who gave me an alcohol wipe…but it was old and dried up. Luckily my cuts were minor!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Falling at T2..still nervous on new bike

Event comments:

Would have liked to see timing chips used...so you can see all splits.

Sounds like you had a great race. I was reading your report and at first I thought you said you got stopped behind someone coming in to T2 who had fallen; I thought, oh no, did I make her fall? Because I fell getting out of my pedals too. Then I realized you finished way before me and there's absolutely no way I was in front of you! Great job!
