Hello!

I've been on the site for about 6 months now, lurking, reading, training, logging. I feel a bit bad really, using all these great resources and not giving anything back, so here I am introducing myself and saying Hi.

I live in Queensland, Australia, and I got into the whole sports thing to try and keep up with my very energetic 3 year old daughter. I've never been "sporty", though I've always been an on/off recreational swimmer, so it started out doing a regular 3 days a week in the pool. That led somehow to an open water swim last November, which then spawned the triathlon idea, and now here I am, completed 2 mini-sprint tris and I'm working towards my first half marathon. Then the season will start again in spring and I've got a few sprint tris picked out for this year.

And I'm loving it! I enjoy the training, getting out in the dawn and appreciating the quiet time of the day. I love the slow and steady progress, the laying of building blocks and the little milestones (running 1k non stop was one of the memorable early ones). I'm lucky, my family is supportive and have cheered me on at my two tris, even if my husband is a little nonplussed by the change.

I've even emerged from my little online hidey-hole and have joined a mentor group (Go the Turtles!) and a challenge, so it looks like I'll be more active here now. So Hello everyone, and thanks, and chat soon! Laughing

The doctor says not to run again. Ever. Needless to say, I’m not taking this very well. Can I recover from this? Where should I go from here?

For most people, there is a story in how they came to the sport as beginners. Some of the most inspiring of those beginner tales begin with health scares.

I usually have at least one workout per day, sometimes two or three, but I spend about all in-between time eating. I am not gaining weight, but I am not losing weight either. Should I be concerned?

My thanks to the triathlete community for being there when I need you. That’s the beautiful thing about triathletes. None of us are all right, and no one expects anyone else to be.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.

I am 28 now, hardly an old crony, but life in busy Sydney Australia has meant my belly is softer than the excuses I use to convince myself I am in good shape.
