Total Time = 1h 31m 47s
Overall Rank = 132/324
Age Group = F40-44
Age Group Rank = 2/11
Pre-race routine:

Got up early as I'm used to, stretched, ate a bit of cold pasta that was left over from dinner the night before. Played Candy Crush. Still stuck on level 41.
Event warmup:

No real warmup, spent a lot of time talking my friend through the transitions, keeping calm in the swim, etc. It was her first triathlon.
Swim
  • 11m 5s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

Took a bit of time to get my breathing settled, but overall a decent swim, Just not that fast!
What would you do differently?:

Channel Michael Phelps
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

I always seem to get a little bit of a calf cramp in my right calf when I'm pulling off the wetsuit. I'm always scared it'll come back and haunt me on the run but it never does. Knock on wood.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster I guess.
Bike
  • 48m 1s
  • 14 miles
  • 17.21 mile/hr
Comments:

I think I could have pushed it a little harder on the bike--something to work on. Still happy with the effort. My gear changing coming out of hills was great--I was flying.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a bit harder
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

Even though I had my landmarks for where my shoes were, I still ran past the rack. No biggie.
What would you do differently?:

Concentrated a bit more on where I was going.
Run
  • 27m 57s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Run felt good. Tried the slow but quicker leg turnover to start as a warmup and gradually increased pace. Felt so so for about a mile and then felt good.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing--good run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed an ice cold chocolate milk, and handful of Swedish fish, sat in the grass and waited for my friend to finish!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm never sure how to answer this. Talent? Genetics? Besides pushing harder on the bike, I was happy with my 'speed'.

Event comments:

I found out after I got home that I placed 2nd in my age group--totally missed my podium photo op! oh well...very proud of my overall performance.

Immediately I felt attracted by the challenge. I have done plenty of biking this summer and a new motivation, particularly toward the end of the summer, was what I needed.

I step gingerly into the pond. I did not know water could be that cold and not be ice. Briefly I can see the bottom and then everything is black except for my pale hands extending from my black suit.
