Swim
Comments: Caught by the current and first pushed in to shore, then overshot at the last buoy. Felt quite strong and confident despite being punched in the head a few times. Goggles stayed on and leak-free, and no jellies! What would you do differently?: Sight more often- eg every 2nd breath Transition 1
Comments: Time 3:34 (included in swim and bike times) Ran out fine but shoes sagged (rubber bands too stretchy and old) and had confidence issues trying to get on and not take out another cyclist at the mount line. What would you do differently?: Use fresh rubber bands, bought not recycled. Run a little further away from the mount line to give some more space. More practice getting feet in and out of shoes. Comments: Pushed the bike hard, enjoyed it. Had a gel at 10km What would you do differently?: More bike training, more long brick training Transition 2
Comments: T2 went quite well Run
Comments: Felt very slow with all the later (faster) waves zooming past me and my legs like lead. Managed to push myself to keep running, however slow, and not walk. Started to feel better around the 3km mark and settled into the stride. Took a few mouthfuls of water at each table and tipped the rest of the cup over me What would you do differently?: Do more training! Esp bricks. Post race
Warm down: a few cups of enduro, fruit, then hang around chatting. Swisse recovery bar and a sausage sarnie What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training esp bike and run strength. Woke up at 3:30, had the usual black coffee. In the car and away by 4.06, ate a small tub of raisins, dates, and nuts on the way. Arrived at 5:30, got set up then had a rest in the car.
