Subject: Back to Triathlon HI
I have joined this site as the plans looked good and motivating.
I used to do lots of triathlons - early to mid 2000's but i found my feet became too sore. Heel spurs, menopause, plantar this and that etc. I thought i was done. But after a while i decided to get it looked at and figured i can work around it. So now i have a few pounds to lose (20 maybe )
I attempted a triathlon in June or July of this year and experienced SIPE which scared me - Swimming Induced Pulmonary Edema. Only made it to about 50 m of the swim before not being able to move.
So i tried a duathlon a month later but popped out my knee during the first run and hobbled thru the last run
At the end of the year i did back to back duathlons (saturday and sunday ) and ended up with a gold and bronze medal - finally back just a little closer to what i used to be.
So after humming and hawing a bit i signed up for a half Ironman next July and downloaded some plans. Figured the swim was first and foremost. The run - can always be walked if required but the swim is paramount! (I am a cyclist so thats not an issue ). I have done many triathlons in the past including an Ironman and Alcatraz so i know its all possible and the half is a good motivator without being too much like a full Ironman.
Here i am now - trying to stay inspired and working up some mileage with the main goal to stay sound and healthy! Keeping my swims to at least 2000m when i get in the pool (sadly i react nasty to chlorine so here i am sitting at work sneezing all day - but its all good ).
