Swim
Comments: Really awesome swim! I don't have a gym membership this year, and don't see why I need one! Coming to the Tuesday swims has been a big help though. I had some good feet to draft, and ended up coming out shoulder to shoulder with the guy - turned out to be Stefano! Steve told me I had to beat this guy today, so it was on. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Really solid T1. Wetsuit came off nicely and I was on the bike in no time. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Pushed a really good pace here. No power meter (dead battery), so had to go with RPE. Those state office intervals really paid off! Coming off the bike I was pretty sure I was in 3rd, with one guy close by and one a bit further ahead. My goal was to keep the 2nd place guy within view and get him on the run, then just keep the pressure on and hope to hang on to the podium as other waves finished behind me. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Still a solid T2, but I went down the wrong aisle and had to duck underneath with my bike to get to my spot. Oops! Didn't really cost much time though so whatever. What would you do differently?: Go down the right aisle Run
Comments: CRUSHED this run. Splits were rock solid, and the pace was perfectly red lined. Reeled in the guy in 2nd a little less than a mile into the run, with no sight of the guy in 1st, and didn't look like anyone was coming for me. But I've been here before, I know people from later waves can jump ahead of me, so I made sure to keep the pressure on. It's not easy when you are racing invisible things, but I did a good job of it. And I needed to, as the next closest guy was only 6 seconds behind me. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: So after I crossed the line in what I figured was second place, the guy who was out in front came up and told me he thought I won. What?? Apparently he went off course on the bike (not sure how you manage that on an out and back...). So while I probably wasn't the fastest guy out there today, I was the first one to finish who did the whole course. Good some fluids and met up with the kiddos. Cheered Steve on when he came in, then got out on the course for Leigh's finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing Event comments: I really love this race, having been coming here for 10 years now. To finish first overall was just amazing. Something I never would've though possible when I first came here years ago. It's always such a fast field, and to take home the win was so cool. And getting to share it all with Leigh and the kids was really special. Last updated: 2017-09-04 12:00 AM

Had breakfast, got picked up by Steve, and checked in early to the race. Found out the Elevate team got their own personal racks right by the exit. Like I needed more motivation to wax the competition coming into this race...
Went for a short 1 mile run, then took the bike to spin around the run course.
