Pre-race routine:

Had some oatmeal in the morning mixed with Raspberry Hammer Gel. Not the best flavor, but I really had the perfect energy level and no cramping the entire race! I stretched for a bit after racking the bike and setting up T1. The I just tried to relax.
Event warmup:

Stretching
Swim
  • 06m 33s
  • 325 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very first Tri ... very first open water swim. I was very proud of completing this in 6:33 considering I have only trained in a pool about 8 times!! I was also happy that my breathing was smooth (no hyper-ventilating), considering that the breathing is the hardest part for me.
What would you do differently?:

I just need more endurance.
Transition 1
  • 05m
Comments:

My T1 was poor. I was so spent from the swim that I felt like JELL-O! I could probably shave a minute or two off next time.
What would you do differently?:

1. Run to bike
2. Put shoes & socks on faster.
3. Run bike to mounting area.
Bike
  • 37m 21s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 18.47 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt great on the bike. I did not over exert myself, which I could have for a faster time, but then I would have crashed in the run. Overall I was very happy with this segment because I was only passed by two people in my age group, and I was the 10th out of 50 out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Once I get a little more endurance, I will push this segment a little more. I know I could have knocked 5 minutes off my total time here, but I wanted to be able to compete in the run as well. It'll just take more training!
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

T2 was a breeze. I biked with my sneakers on so all I had to do was rack and remove helmet and then I was off. I took a slug of Hammer Gel at T2, and it was the perfect time. It really helped my ability to compete as well as I did in the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 25m 44s
  • 3.25 miles
  • 07m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

The hill at the beginning was steep so the start was tough with wobbly legs. But once I got going, I negative split all three miles. The last mile, I sprinted up the entire hill and finished very strong. It was the best feeling in the world!!!
What would you do differently?:

Just need to build more endurance.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing, I feel as though I performed at my peak ability. Now I just need to train harder.

Event comments:

Very well organized!
