Swim
Comments: Better than expected! Starting in the 5th and final wave made for limited draft opportunities. Wasn't too bad navigating around slower swimmers from earlier waves. I think I even spotted Kira when I passed her. What would you do differently?: Nothing, swim training hasn't been going great this year, so pretty happy with this. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time to get socks on, no need for a blister before tomorrow's ultra. What would you do differently?: Given this circumstances, nothing. Bike
Comments: Was a bit surprised to come out of the water to find it raining - was supposed to hold off until later. Rained pretty hard at times actually on this ride, which I thought was maybe not the best conditions to be riding these race wheels for the first time (only other time I rode a disc wheel was IMCHOO and it stormed and I flatted and crashed, soooo..). BUT, I found the tires to be pretty grippy, and I eventually trusted them. I was pretty cold in the rain so set out hard to warm up, and hoped I could hold the effort. Well, I did, and I set a new PR on this bike course, finally breaking 50 minutes here. Power = 236/245, highest I've ever ridden here. What would you do differently?: Nothing, great ride. Transition 2
Comments: Smooth, no issues. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Starting in the last wave I had no clue where I stood in the race, so I just had to go out hard and see where things turned out. When I caught Ben, he seemed to think I was the leader on the road because there was only one guy in front of him, and not too far up the road (it turned out there was a guy much further ahead that he didn't see). I left Ben and went on ahead after the other guy. On the final stretch of road back up to the entrance, the gap was pretty big for how much course was left, but I caught the guy and passed him as we entered the grass and held him off down the chute. Collapsed in the grass, and then heard the announcers say I had beaten the first guy to cross the line and was the winner of the race! What would you do differently?: Nothing, awesome run. Post race
Warm down: No cool down What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing, so exciting to set a new PR here and take the overall win!! Very proud of this one. Event comments: Love this race. Last updated: 2023-09-12 12:00 AM
