Swim
Comments: This was a small tri, so we had a mass start. The swim to the first buoy was a bit crowded, but it really opened up after the first turn. The consequence of a crowded first leg is usually heavy breathing, so I really had to focus on pace and stroke for the main 400 yard leg to bring my breathing back in line. Transition 1
Comments: My 11-minute swim time includes T1. Bike
Transition 2
Comments: My bike time includes T2 Run
Comments: Had a strong run Post race
Warm down: Water, bananas and watermelon. What limited your ability to perform faster: I hve been on a maintenance type conditioning program since my 1/2 IM at the end of July, so races feel a bit more difficult. For example, only running about 10 miles per week right now. It feels good, but it's also apparent on race day. Event comments: This race has the potential to be a top event in the area if the Y would let go of it and turn it over to people who know how to stage a tri. They do an adequate job, but timing is weak, results got screwed up in many age groups, and it is not USAT sanctioned, so the roadies were drafting (behind me, I might add, which was a source of small satisfaction). They do provide very nice trophy plaques, however. And since this is my first age group win it will definitely hold a fond sport in my heart. Last updated: 2004-09-13 12:00 AM
