Swim
Comments: I took it easy on the swim. My goal was 30 minutes which i met. I drafted this one guy for a while but he was not going so straight. I went around him but he kept coming in close then off to the other side then back again. we seemed to pace each other until the back half where i pulled ahead. I had my own issues going in a straight line as well. What would you do differently?: Practice in open water. Transition 1
Comments: I took way to long here. I was trying to shake the desire to hurl. So i took my time, and walked my bike out to the mount. What would you do differently?: Do more races. Bike
Comments: I still have not mastered race nutrition. I took two gels and some water on the way up the fist hill. Then moderate sips through the valley. Two more gels at mile 18 and water. I felt great through the bike. I pushed gradually harder through the whole course. I passed a bunch of people towards the end, and up the hill. That hill ruined me for the run though. What would you do differently?: Push myself even harder Transition 2
Comments: Heaving from the climb i walked into T2 to steady my HR. I ran into my new buddy steve who was racked behind me. We decided to run together. What would you do differently?: Do more races Run
Comments: I had a really nice time chatting. It took our minds off of the pain. My stomach was really tight and crampy on the right side. Thanks Steve for encouraging me to keep running. We endured to run up the hill taking water at all the stops. We picked up the pace at the turn. At the 5 mile mark i decided to see what i had left in me and ran fast. This reactivated the cramping that had subsided at mile 2.5. It hurt, but i wanted to catch the 64 year old lady that passed us at the turn. It ended up paying off since i was able to meet my goal of finishing under three hours, by 00:05. What would you do differently?: Nutrition Post race
Warm down: sat in grass in the shade, talked to new friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: inexperience, the cold i caught on Wednesday, the three days of business travel Event comments: I will be back next year. This is a great location and a great race. Last updated: 2007-04-12 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:15 after a not so great nights sleep. Mostly nerves kept me from the quality sleep i had hopes for. Had a muffin and a banana and hoped in the van for the 20 minute ride from Waynesville. Parking was no problem. Got to the TA at around 6:20. Racked my bike and headed off to marking and chips before the line got too long. Got back to my bike and realized that I had left my goggles in my other bag back at the inn. Thankfully I had three people offer my their extra pair. Thanks guys.
I got in the dock/pool area for a quick warm up. The water was perfect. They said it was 70 but it felt like 75. No wet suit for me. I swam from the start to the finish area to feel the temp change that I had heard about. It was a lot colder under the bridge, but not enough to make me want a suit.
