Subject: GPX import slightly off
Hi,

I just started uploading files from my Forerunner 305 and I'm seeing that the mileage on the site is lower than the mileage reported by my software and GPS unit. I'm using SportTracks software to import data and export the GPX files. For example, a route was 4.63 miles on my GPS, but when I upload the GPX file to BT it says it's only 4.53 miles. I realize it's only a slight annoyance but I'd really like the data to be consistent with my GPS and software. Is it possible that my GPS/software takes elevation into account when calculating distance and the site does not? Has anyone had a similar issue or have ideas to solve this problem? I've opened the GPX file and I see only one trkseg segment.

Thanks,
Mike

Due to the huge number of data points contained in some of these files that are generated by GPS units, we drop some if they're too close together on courses with a lot of tight turns that can result in what you're seeing.

The fix is to edit the course after it's been uploaded by dragging some of the markers at those points to follow the roads. This should restore the distance to what you expected to see.
