Subject: Ebay experts: Explain multi-item auctions to me

What do I have to do to win? I lost two of them today, even though I bid the final sales price. At the time of each bid, it was the highest bid in the auction.

I beleive it is because someone would have paid more.  Like, their actual bid was $40, but they only needed to hit $20 to win it.  If your max bid was $20, then you lose.
