Hi there everyone,

Well as you all have seen I’m a bit of a newbie to the triathlon world. I have wanted to do one for a very long time and well just never really had the motivation. So here I am. Thanks to this site I am now signed up for two, one on Aug. 1st and the other on Aug. 29th. I am hoping to maybe find somebody here in Omaha to become friends and train with. My husband is not exactly into fitness and truthfully I don’t have too many friends that are either. UndecidedSo if anyone is interested please let me know. Hope to talk to you all soon.Smile

Mindy

Welcome to the site! Although I have not trained with them, I hear there are a good group of athletes in Omaha that train together. Check the other NE posts for the details.....

Welcome to the site. Congratulations on getting into the sport. I didn't have any friends who did triathlons when I started. Now most all of my friends are triathletes. Not that I converted them, but that you meet all kinds of people at the races. Best of luck with training.

Check out Team Nebraska Triathlon.  They are on Facebook too.  They have open water swim followed by a bike loop at Lake Manawa on weekends.  There is a women's running group that meets on I think thursday nights at the UNO track.

Mindy, I know Bellevue is a long way from 168th and Center, but there are a bunch of triathletes that all workout at Lifetime Fitness. I was working out at 24hr fitness, and happened to chat up a couple guys on TT bikes on a ride last week. So I joined Lifetime and will probably start getting with them for group rides, swims and runs.

I hear the Masters Swimming at Lifetime is a good group....I may have to give that a go.

There are also some running clubs in the area. Cycling rides with several bike shops. I will post a couple links later on when I get a chance.

Here are a couple links.

Xtreme Wheels has a nice social ride on Fridays around the full moons. Might meet some folks wanting to train....check their blog or call and ask if they have any groups riding harder than on the full moon rides.

The Bike Way has weekly road rides. I have not ridden with them, but I'm guessing they go pretty hard on Wed.

Omaha Running Club
I am not a very good runner, and continue to fight a foot injury, so I don't know about them. Seems like a good group though...

fifthcircle, thank you so much for all the links. This should help quite a bit.
I hope you all don’t mind but I added you all to my friends list so I can look and see what you all are doing and… well basically go to school on you so I can learn some stuff. I hope you guys don’t mind.

Hey there...Im also new to Tri world and planning to compete in first sprint on July 19.  I'm also planning on the Aug 1 Iron Horse in North Platte.  I am working out with group right now but ending after the first race in a few weeks.  I am also looking for workout partners...especially for swim and biking.

New here to the triathlon world too. Been a competitive weightlifter for the last 10yrs. and decided to change things up.
Mindy,
Which tri are you doing Aug. 1? I am doing the one in Plattsmouth. My son talked me into it as he did one in Norfolk last year.

mybuddy I found a partner already but I don’t know whether she will be going to any of the Team NE evens with me later on next month. Do you go to any of their events? If so maybe we could hook up and see where each of us are with our training. I don’t want to hold anyone back and since I have basically just started I'm not up to par with too many people right now.

DJS I'm doing the Plattsmouth sprint race. Is the one in Norfolk the only one you have done so far? This will be my first and I am really nervous about it... Embarassed Hopefully all will go well. If you would like maybe we could meet before hand and get introduced… My husband and mother will there with me and maybe a friend, if I can talk her into doing it with me. Tongue out

DJS I'm doing the Plattsmouth sprint race.

I see you're doing the Plattsmouth on the 1st, but what Tri will you be doing at the end of August? I just moved to Omaha a couple weeks ago and I am actually working in Bellevue now. I don't know of any tris in the area really and would like to know of some more.

epredl,
The race I am doing at the end of August is an all women tri. It’s on the 29th and it’s put on by St. Mary College.

Well I guess I won't be racing in that one then
I am considering doing the Plattsmouth one (even though it's a pool swim..booooo). I also want to do the Black Squirrel Tri in Council BLuffs, IA on Aug 22.

Epredl, how many tris have you done? The Plattsmouth one will be my first. I'm nervous as H*LL but I think it will be a great experience and I hope I end up loving the sport.

Mindy,
The Plattsmouth one is the one I am doing also. It will be my first. I just talked to the Community Center down there today and found out it is going to be a hilly run. Downhill on the first half and uphill on the last half. She told me to be practicing with hills.
Swimming and biking is going ok, but the running is a struggle.
I will be there with my wife, mom and sister. My son is supposed to be entering too. It will be his second. He is the one that did the Norfolk one.
I noticed you workout at 24HR in Papillion. What days/times? That is the same gym I workout at.

Welcome all to the world of triathlon. We have a small group in the Beatrice area that started training and racing a couple of years ago and it is slowly growing. I think some of us are racing the Cornhusker State Games, Iron Horse triathlon and the Black Squirel in Council Bluffs. Hope we can get together at some of the races.

Mindy,
Last year was my first year so I have done 5 triathlons and 1 duathlon. I hope to get about 4 more tris in this season though.

Welcome to the site! It's been what seems like an eon since I've been on, but it's nice to see another friendly face from Bellevue.

I'll be doing the Papillion Mayor's tri on the 19th and will probably do the Black Squirrel in August. I usually work out at the Papillion 24 Hour Fitness as well, so maybe I'll see you around. (and maybe DJS, too!)
