Subject: Cue sheet for the 40m IM Loop?
Does anyone have a cue sheet they can send me?  I've never done it which is kind of unbelievable given I live right off Old Sauk and Timber Lane.  I would like to try it this weekend.

Thanks
Suzy

Here's some info from my reply to Travis' post a number of posts down:

Here's the map and a couple of suggestions to avoid the bridge out on Shady Oak Ln.

http://www.ironmanwisconsin.com/bike.html

You can either stay on Timber Lane instead of turning left onto Midtown to Shady
Oak Ln, and then turn left onto County Hwy PD to N None Mound Rd,
OR
From Timber Ln, left onto Midtown Rd, go past Shady Oak Ln for a mile or so, and
turn right onto Woods Rd (there's a couple of hills here), turn right onto
County Rd PD, then left onto N Nine Mound Rd.  (Be careful here due to traffic).

OR

You can join AmyJo, Kristin (Lazymarathoner) and I starting Sat. morn around 6 - 6:30 a.m., leaving the BP gas station across from Gray's Tied House.

We made it! And only got just a teeny tiny bit lost once

We had a cue sheet from Ironman.com for reference and it's marked like Amy said. I'd still get lost though if I were alone :/

So I was telling the guy who coaches me about your Monona experience and he said "Oh you mean Lazymarathoner?". Too funny, I had no idea you knew Steve.

Yeah, small world right? We were going to meet up but when he said he was coming for an OWS session I told him he may want to reconsider!

Amy and I averaged 15.5ish today. We were 18-22 on the flats/easier parts and slower on the hills.

Really? I'd have thought as more experienced people (than I, for sure!) you would have been a little faster. I've been doing about 17-18 on flats on this certain route between Stoughton and Lake Kegonsa. But then, its a lot shorter than a IMMOO loop. I'm usually beat by the time end of the return trip.
Took me about 35 minutes to do just over 9 miles.

Yep, he was meeting me.  He did a lot for me in the pool in on session so I figured it was time to get better in OW.  I think he is coming up either Monday or Tuesday of next week.  I'm hoping with the cooler weather Wingra will be the place we meet. If not, Lake Ripley which is a hike, but very, very clean.

Have you riden the course?  There are 3 or 4 major hills that slow you down.  I was happy to have done 15.5 on it.

No I haven't. Not sure I'd be alive by even the halfway mark!

The only serious hills on the route I've been doing is on page st. in Stoughton, and one near the midway point of the loop. The rest is all gently rolling stuff for the most part. Its very similar to what my first tri will be on the 4th.

I've averaged up to 19mph in races and usually can do 17-18 on training rides, but this course is tough. It has nothing to do with how experienced you are, there are climbs that knock you down to 7mph or less. There are a lot of turns and that slows you down as well. When you train a course like this - or at least when I do - I don't push at a race intensity. The goal is to just get familiar and get acclimated to long, hard rides so by race day we'll be able to hopefully perform our best.

Unless my husband has something up his sleeve for Saturday at oh-dark thirty, I'm in.   He is back in the states tomorrow mid afternoon so I will post if my intentions change.  Of course that also assumes my coach is willing to let me change my schedule around.  So far he has been pretty good about this stuff, but we'll see.

I'm excited.  I just hope I can keep up with you IM types.

Not to burst your bubble, but that hill on Page Street and the one up by the state park would barely qualify as a hill on the IM loop. Still a nice route, I occasionally do the loop around the state park or ride up into the park on my way home from work if I want to stretch out the ride a little bit. Shoot me a PM with contact info if you ever want to get together and ride.

Haha! I'm usually granny gearing the one by the park by the time I get to the top! The one on Page is at the end of my ride, so I'm kind of bonked out by then. I  usually "get around" it by going west on wilson or west street and going up a less "steep" street like monroe or Johnson or something like that.
I guess I'm still not in condition enough for real hills!
Anyway, I'll probably be doing this route again Sat. morning sometime, as that is my long ride day. Schedule calls for 58 minutes, so I'll have to look to extend the ride somewhere about a mile or 2.
