We all know the HRTC board is dreadfully slow so why not have our own thread over here?

It was a pleasure to meet many of you at the meeting last night.  It's always nice to put a face with a screen name Smile

Who is racing next?  What are your weekend training plans?  Is anybody hitting Lake 288 Sunday?

Hey Keri... There are a few of us that are hittin' 288 on Saturday morning at 8am.  I can't do Sunday this week.  No swimming alone!

I would be willing to meet at Lake 288 this Sunday. My normal rides are on Saturday and was going to have to work something out if everyone was going to meet on Saturday. If anyone wants to meet on Sunday let me know. How are the roads in that area? Would I be able to get some road work in on the way there?

Shurmier, the road leading to the lake is littered with big ol' potholes... it would be tough even for a mountain bike.  Good luck!

So I guess I should leave the bike home? How long am I on the pot hole infested road?

Houstonrider - I will be happy to meet you there Sunday.  What part of town are you in?  Is carpooling an option?  I am in NW Houston off 290.  I can't make Saturday because it's my 7 year olds birthday so I will be in full fledged party preparation mode.
I know, I know, no swimming alone.  I won't do it again, I promise.
There is no way I'd take my bike out there, you could lose a small car in some of those pot holes!  It would be great if we just knew somebody who could map out a ride for us.... wonder who that could be???  If we could find an area outside of the potholes but not along the freeway to ride that would be great!

Keri, I live in Friendswood about 13 miles south of Lake 288. I'm right in between 45 South and 518 so carpooling wouldn't be an option. But I can meet you there on Sunday.

I know some pretty good 30-40 miles bike rides that originate in the Cinco Ranch area (Katy). They can pretty easily be stretched to over 50 with-out too much problems if your interested

Thanks.  My hope was to find something near the lake in Pearland so I could go for a swim and ride while I am out there.

Met with Justin (Houstonrider) yesterday.  It was a beautiful day and we had a nice swim.

What is everybody up to this week?  Let's not let this thread be as dead as HRTC!!!

I have my next tri at the Y in Pearland June 28.  Training hasn't be great but I know this week is going to be better.  I am a little anxious about the pool swim and thinking about making my way down there this week to practice in their 50 meter.

Wake up!  It's Monday, time to post updates!!!

ETA:  Does anybody know how long the Bridgeland swim is?  I've seen everything from 300-528 meters.  I am getting Brendan in the pool this week (14 year old).  I'd like to see him swim a good 300 before I take him out to 288 and when that happens I'd love some support of you master swimmer dudes.

Thanks Keri for all the tips and information you provided regarding the OWS on Sunday. I learned how much I truly don't know about swimming. Looks like I have a lot of work cut out for me... at least I have a few more weeks prior to Aug 9th.

But on the bright side.... I didn't drown!

Okay, just joined HRTC and did not make the last meeting.  In fact, my hubby's schedule is a pain to work around, so I may not get to attend many meetings at all.  I do want to meet up at 288 Lake eventually though!  It would be great to meet some other BTers!!!

Bring him out Keri... we will get him trained and ready to have some Tri fun!

Glad y'all had a good swim session on Sunday.  BTW, 288 Lake said they will now be open on Fridays from 3:30-8:30!

I might be able to swing 30 miles.
Thanks so much!  I need to see him in the pool before I'm ok with him in the open water.  He took lesssons for years but I've never watched him swim laps.  I dragged him to spin class with me today - he loves me now - LOL

Friday nights???  Sounds like happy hour at the lake to me Laughing

Howdy Y'all...

I dont know if I can make the Saturday swims, but it is time to re-start the bike rides. We should be able to ride on Saturdays now that the kids are finished with Baseball and soccer.....

Look for a post with details soon, both here and on HRTC forums....

As my IMAZ training begins, I need some folks to keep me honest about my workouts....

So nice to see you playing along Joe Smile  I'll keep an eye out for those rides though I certainly don't ride as far as you probably go.

I am going to get the husband running shoes for Father's Day.  Knowing this is an individual thing and he will likely need to exchange them where do you guys recommend I get them?  I'd really like him to get a good pair, have them take a look at his bow legged gait (LOVE my bow legged man!) and fit him well.  Is there somewhere my HRTC card would get me a discount???

While we're talking spending.... I need some kind of contraption to bring water with me on my long runs.  What do you guys use?  Recommendations appreciated.  PS  Long run = hour-ish.

With shoes, I've always had good luck at Luke's Locker, but there are also places like Fleet Feet, Finish Line Sports, etc.  I like that they look at your feet and gait before trying to fit you in a shoe.  They usually give you a few choices and let you pick the one that you like best.

As for water on a long run, I use one of two things:

1)  A fuel belt w/4 bottles...some people like the one with 6.  Mine is super old (I've had it for 7 years), so it's the standard black one, but now they come in cute colors like pink or blue.  They usually also have a pocket with a zipper where you can store gu, driver's license, etc.  I like that you can fill some bottles with gatorade and some with water...versus the single bottle fuel belt where you can only do one or the other.

http://www.fuelbelt.com/fuel_belts/4_bottle.html

2)  A hand held water bottle thingy.  I have two - the larger ampiod bottle and the smaller fuel belt bottle.  I prefer the smaller one and found that it works great for 1/2 marathons where there are water/gatorade stations.  I've been using mine a lot during neighborhood runs where I can always stop back at home if I need to refill

You will get a 15% discount at Lukes Locker wit a HRTC card.

The fuel belt is a great tool, if interested, I have a never used before 6 bottle just like this one for sale (cheap):

I just have not placed it in the classified section yet.
