Any of the Essex County Tri Club (or anyone really, I suppose) thinking of doing the Detroit Marathon? I'm seriously leaning toward the half (it would be my first) but wondering if anyone would want to join me and/or carpool.

I did the half two years ago.. it was a really cool running over the bridge and back through the tunnel, the finish is on ford field too! As you run across the line your on the big jumbo screen!.. I would recommend it
only down fall is the early start time.
I would be cool to get a relay team this year.

Me! Me! Me!!!

along with the Michigan crew!

I am doing the Full.

If you consider taking the tunnel bus (which I think is a cool idea), make sure you arrive early to the main station and hop on the first bus!  speaking from experience...

I've done the 1/2 as well. It's really cool running over the bridge and through the tunnel.  Finishing at Ford Field was really neat too!!

I'm in for the full, I am trying to BQ there that is why I've taken a break from tri's this season. My half this weekend in tecumseh should tell me shere I'm at. I need to shave 15 minutes off my time for the full, not a small task...good luck to the other runners.

I am training a group from my gym as well for the half. There are about 15 in all. For most of them it will be their first. It should be a good experiance.

The finish line was not in ford field last year.  It was in front of Compuware.

That's funny - I go to that gym too! I think I will talk to my hubby about it tonight and sign up. The tunnel bus is an AWESOME idea, I forgot all about it!

If you decide to we meet for the first time tommorow (Wens) at the track at 7pm behind the arena. PM if you have any questions or email me at click for e-mail. We meet once a week for the first 5 weeks and then progress to 2 times a week after that. (because of the heat we are letting you guys do your long runs earlier than we can as a group on /sundays). Included in your price is daycare while we run provided your children are potty trained.

Sounds great, except neither of my children are potty trained (although my son is getting a lot closer!) and we do a lot of our group rides out of the gym on Wednesdays. Donna Falconer recommended the Furman FIRST training plan (I'm doing my first full marathon in the spring) so I'll probably look at a modified version of that on my own for this one.

Good luck with the group!

I might be interested in joining in?  October would be such a great time to race.

I am running the full Marathon.

Jenna what do you think of the FIRST training programs?
I used it to train for a marathon and found it great especially with the 2 Cross days and only 3 days of running I had less issues with sore legs and injuries.

I ran the full 2 years ago, and the finish isn't in Ford Field any longer, unless they changed it back for this year.

It's a great race, but the front 1/2 is much better with the Bridge and tunnel compared to a flat and kind of boring (relative to the front), back half.

Be prepared for the heat and humitity in the tunnel, it kind of took me by surprise. It's only a mile, and was kind of neat to have an "underwater mile timed", but I was glad to get back outside as I was overheating.

Good luck,

FishHog

This need to pump back up because I REGISTERED!!!!!   bib#7267.

No more swimming, biking, or any other physical activities I usually do.  Just pure running, 5 days a week until Oct 18.  My goal is under 5 hr.

Anyone want to meet up please let me know.  There is a thread going on in Michigan forum.

I'm going to run the half. I need a goal to work towards.  I'm shooting for 1:50 - I should be able to get close anyway.  I'm hoping my sister will run with me as well!

Lets gather both the Essex County Tri Club along with the Michigan crew....

Linky

This is where the starting line.  Last year, it is almost impossible to find anyone in the dark before the race.

I propose we gather here under the advertisement sign 1/2 hr before the race?  That said, it might be so crowd and the situation is unexpected.

Now someone propose a better meeting spot if possible...

Come meet us!  We wanna see you guys!
