Guys - IM rules on "relieving on the fly"

They're not going to scribe a rule that allows for public nudity or public urination.  But, they have addressed the topic in pre-race meetings in years past.  And, as you would imagine, discretion is the key.  They recognize that this bodily function is a part of long distance racing, but they don't want you peeing in someone's front yard and having to deal with the potention associated complaints.  If you can do it discretely, no one will care.  But, by the books, it's against the law and therefore against the rules.  Best to take a peek around to make sure no race officials are nearby.

I've done the "just pee my pants" thing before.  Don't think I'll do that again...tends to exacerbate saddle discomfort for me.  I usually just find a spot along the course where I can pull off and do my business hidden by trees/bushes.  That's the typical procedure.  If needed, there are porta johns at every aid station, too.

I guess if you want to get technical about it, public nudity could also be stripping down in the changing tent in transition...in front of 150 other atheletes and volunteers.  I go with the discretion opinion.  Ducking into the woods and not on someone's front lawn.

same thing applies when you are swimming in cold water with your wetsuit on.  some call it gross, i call it warm.

At IMC there were guys peeing discretely all over the bike course (off the shoulders) including myself.  I think the rule is written to promote discretion more than to penalize someone.

I doubt very much a ref would tag you for it unless you were drawing your name on the asphalt yelling woo-wooo.

Sterile fluid or not, I'm not going to pee myself and spend another 6 hours sloshing in it.

If you wear socks they should do all the absorption so you don't have to worry about the slohing
