Over the past couple days my graph in my training log has come up with a red X and just all white.  Are you guys working on something or do I need to update software?

Try updating JAVA:

Let us know if this gets it.

Ron,

I wasn't getting the infamous red "x", but I am getting strange colors, lines, etc.  I tried the Java update and it doesn't seem to help.  When I first open my log, I get a little message that says "Click on this control to activate".  When I do that, I can right click my mouse (over the graph) and the graph shows up correctly, but with a menu over it.  Once I click away it goes back to the messed up look.

BTW, I'm using the new IE, but I was having this problem before I made the switch.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris, when it happens again, if you can do a 'Print Screen', cut the graph out and save it and attach it here that would help out a lot.

Also is it the 'total volume' or 'AVP' minigraph?

Will do.

It's both graphs, but I found a little wrinkle after I posted last: if I "activate the control" then hover over one of the bars (like total volume) it shows the graph clear.  Once I move off the bars, it goes back.  I'll print it tomorrow (I'm on my home computer and it's working fine here).

Thanks!

I can't get the picture to show on my screen...let me know if it's not showing up for you.

No, I get the 'X'.  Instead of copying and pasting it to the editor, when you post, click on the 'attach a file after posting' box at the bottom and upload it that way.

OK, since that's working, here's what happens when I 'activate' the control and then hover the pointer over one of the bars:

Ok, one more question, is it only with the minigraphs or ALSO with the bigger graphs?

Umm, I think just the mini graphs, but I'm not sure where the big graphs would be.

Any of the blog, calendar or report views, go to the 'graphs' link in the top right and hover over it, you will get several options for the 'bigger' graphs...try a few of the 'actual' graphs there.

I get the same response as the smaller graphs in the blog.  It's black (today) and says "Click to activate and use this control", when I click the graph stays black but I can hover over the results bar and the graph shows up.

This is due to your updated version of Internet Explorer and it is, believe it or not, exactly what Microsoft intended. A company called Eolas Technologies patented the 'automatic activation of embedded controls' in web pages, which means having things like Flash games and java apps work right off the bat when you load the page in your browser. In order to not violate the patent, it now has to work by you clicking on it or taking some other action first. It's a bad patent and Microsoft fought it, but they lost. This is the result.

There is a workaround which can be coded into the pages. We'll get it in. Shouldn't be too hard. (Easy for me to say, Matt's the one who'll do it. Wink  )

Here's some detail. h

Do you know what type of video card you have? Any window enhancements-- StyleXP, windowblinds, or things of that nature.

I searched the java forums and came back with people with similar issues
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=32&threadID=625930

More possibilities (many references to disabling anti aliasing)
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000041100.xml

It sounds like a video driver issue, but I'm not sure ...

No idea what my video driver is...

Since this is my work machine, I don't want to call the help desk and say, when I try to access my Beginnertriathlete logs I can't access my log graphs, they were wondering what kind of video card I have...  :)  I do know that I am running Windows XP, SP2.  I'm sure it's a pretty basic configuration.

I'll go through the articles and see what I can find out.  Thanks for all the help.

Hmm, are other workstations there similarly configured? I wonder if they have the same problems. Maybe you could sneak over and test when they're at lunch?

Can you access the java console (right click the java coffee cup icon in the task bar)?

We might need to forward to the developer of the applet and see if they have any ideas, too

I'd try that, but I'm the only one on the new IE -  that I know of - but I'll check around tomorrow to see if anyone else has it installed.  I tried opening the Java console, but it was blank too.  I think that was mentioned in one of the links.

I looked over the links, but it didn't seem to apply - or I don't know how to apply it.

Do your display properties look anything like these screens?
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel915g/sb/CS-013595.htm

I don't have one in front of me of course, but see if you can dig around in there and disable anything related to anti-aliasing. The java link above suggests that can cause corrupted displays and a blank configuration console. Wish I had something more concrete to try.

Matt,

I thought I'd let you know that I didn't have much success in finding an anti-aliasing setting.

And, I just upgraded my laptop (it's OLD) to IE7 and installed Java and it works just fine.  The graph shows up fine and then I'm able to 'use' it after I click on it.  Must be something with my video card at work...I'll keep exploring.

Thanks for the hard work.

Chris
