I am in for the sprint in Grimsby.  I want to head out to check out that "Beast of the East" Hill before the race.  Anyone by chance have a photo of it?

If you get a photo of the hill, please share. I doubt I will get to the site location before the race. I usually like to check it out ahead of time but I won't get to this time around. I am now registered for the sprint as well.

I'm pretty sure Ill be in this race. The swim is in Lake Ontario right? I've done a tri in Lake Ontario before and the current was a huge factor plus it was cold. Has anyone else had similar expeciences?/What should I expect?

I know what you mean...I did Grimsby two years ago....one of my first tris and the water was very choppy...it was very disorienting....felt as if I wasn't getting anywhere. The water can be alot colder. It is an experience. I haven't done the sprint route before so "THE HILL" I hear about should be interesting. The tri a tri route I did was a nice one I thought...it was different organizers so not sure if its the same venue for start and finish or not. Last year I was to do Grimsby but ecoli forced no swimming so I had to do the duathlon. I really missed the swim portion that event. It makes you appreciate the water again.

I did that for Guelph Lake this past weekend but I only was approached by one BT'er. I didn't see any others with markings on the calf.

Did you do the Try or Sprint?? it still is hard to pick people out of that size of a crowd. Anyone done Grimsby before is there a good spot to try and meet before race start to say hi ?

Hi I am participating in the duathlon in Grimsby. This is my first event of this type. I will move to the Tri's when I become better conditioned for this type of event. Plus my swimming is not strong. they would be dragging me out of the water.

It will be hard to get a photo of that hill because it has a few (4, I think..) levels and the hill curves. The beginning of the hill is the killer becuase it immediately starts steep. It is a challenge.

I went over to Grimsby on Friday.  The plan was to sail there from Toronto, and bike it once before the race.  Then I decided to take the dog instead and run over to the hill from the marina in Grimsby.  That morning when I got to the boat to leave one of my dock neighbors asked if he could tag along.  Sure no problem.

We got to Grimsby in the afternoon and since he was with me, we did not run, but walked which was fine.  The problem was that he was tired and hot and started to complain that I left the map on the boat and how do we know we were going the right direction.....so we turned around and went back to the boat.  5.5 hours to get there and we abandon the walk after 20 mins!   I never did make it to Park Road but could see the escarpment from the north side of the QEW.  Looks steap for sure.

I guess I will have my chance to see it up close and personal in three weeks, hopefully pedalling the bike up and not walking it.

Maybe it's best we don't see the hill until race day by the sounds of it. The bike route is supposed to be relatively flat other than "that" hill. I welcome any others with comments who know of this hill. Thanks!

I can't imagine its worse than 6th line hill at Milton that was enough of a monster that nothing will scare me again. Smile  The humility of walking the last 150 feet does something to your motivation to train and get better.

Water Temp for Lake Ontario I've been told is 67 degrees! Definitely a wet suit event!

Unfortunately I won't be able to make the Sprint this weekend

In regards to "the hill" I've heard that it's just slightly less menacing than 6th line in Milton but it is longer, so there you go. Just remember that everyone has to climb it. While I don't 'love' hills I do like the challenge both physical and mental that they provide.

That's a positive way of looking at hills - the mental and physical challenge it gives. I will remember that as I struggle up it!! Any other BTer's doing this event this weekend?

Your first event is one you will remember forever. Very exciting! Good luck to you both! Weather is supposed to be perfect so that helps.
