Subject: RE: I'm on my way to a Tri..............I was on my way to a Tri, and very excited to use my new Aerobars. I brought those new Bontrager rims, although everytime I ride on them it makes me think of that fact that I used money from the Chipotle fund to buy them. "Dude, you used your burrito money for rims?!?! That's wack!" (that was the reaction I got from TriComet when I told her the story) So anyway, I got to the race and my Electrolytes seemed to be running a bit low. The guy next to me with the Felt bike had some extra Gatorade. He helped a brotha out, so I gave him the Hammer gel that was in my race packet. "Now, I'm no Ironman," I tell him "but if I get out there today and Just Do It, I might have a shot at not being last." We head down to the water for our swim start, and some dork next to me is chattering on and on about having raced at Kona, and that this sprint race is really just a warm up for him. After getting out of the water and onto my bike, I went cruising past some hotshot on a Litespeed, and another on a Trek Madone. So we come in at the end of the bike course, and I had to swerve around some Newbie that took a digger on the dismount. I grabbed my Oakleys and a Power Gel, hopped over a Quintana Roo that fell off the Rack, and ran like the wind. About half way through the run, I realized that for a Sprint race, this was one hell of a course. I saw Tubes scattered about on the side of the road, and counting my blessings that I had not been so unlucky on the bike. After the finish, USAT had a tent set up, and they were hosting a clinic on calculating your VO2 Max. I was not interested, as I just wanted to Warm down (or is it cool down?), load up my Xterra, strap the bike on the Yakima rack, and head off to the Zoo (for all you haters out there, the "Zoo" is street slang for Chipotle) |
