I would love to be part of this mentor group. As I write this I am currently battling Pnuemonia and any type of racing is the farthest from my mind. As a matter of fact just typing this out is wearing me down now. I will do a bio update a bit later if Fred is willing to take me on as a mentor. thanks for the consideration and I really could not think of a better mentor to have on BT.

Would love to join in!

 Here is my BIO:

NAME: Brad Doss ,42

STORY: 2nd year of Triathlon. Last year I got the bug and went full force, 2 olys, 1HIM and IMAZ most recently. I had no prior endurance background really.I was in stick and ball sports through school and then had long periods of inactivity and partying with some rec sports (softball) and mtn biking here and there. Only started running in March 2010.

FAMILY STATUS: Girlfriend of 8 yrs. 3 children: one "step son" 16 in the house. 2 daughters 27,12 live out of state

CURRENT TRAINING: Coming off IMAZ in Nov. I felt good a few days after.  I have put in a few runs since but I feel like I ran 15 miles when it was only 4. Going slowly but trying to ramp up for half mary Jan 28.

2011 RACES: 2 olympic races in Tempe, The Mountain Man half iron in Flagstaff and IMAZ in Nov.

2012 RACES: There will be several Oly distance races throughout AZ & CA. I would like to do The Mountain Man HIM again and possibly SOMA HIM in Tempe

WEIGHT LOSS GOALS: I am currently 5'11" and weigh 210. Raced IMAZ at 195. This is something I struggle with. I am down from 275 (!) at my heaviest and have setbacks from time to time. I think this is one of my biggest issues as far as speed is concerned and am resolved to move the needle downwards even more this year.

WHAT WOULD MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE: I love triathlon and longer distances in general. I also love learning all the intricate details of training and strategy from knowledgable members.

ALSO: Last year was unbelievably great year with all I had to learn in that first year. I progressed in every race and hope to do the same if not at a higher rate this season.

Thanks for having me Fred

NAME: Elaine, age 26

STORY: First tri was in 2006, got more "serious" in the past two years. I'm a strong swimmer, a decent runner, and a slow biker. Gonna really focus on that one starting in February. I'm an engineer

FAMILY STATUS: I've got a boyfriend and a dog.

CURRENT TRAINING: Building up to ING Miami Marathon (my first) on Jan 29. After that, diving headfirst into biking, and picking up the swimming a bit.

2011 RACES: A few sprints, two Olympics, my first 70.3, a half marathon, two Ragnar Relays and various other stuff.

2012 RACES: Undecided, mostly. I'm on the Rev3 Triathlon Team, and I'll be targeting a few of their races this year. I'd love to do most as 70.3s and some Olys. My first potential Rev3 races isn't until May, so I've got time to build, plan and tweak.

WEIGHT LOSS GOALS: None really. Would be nice to be down about 5lbs for my race weight. Sitting around 130 at 5'4" right now.

WHAT WOULD MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE: I really want to be under the wing of someone more experienced. I'm going to the USAT Level I coaching clinic in March, so I'll get a good dose of textbook knowledge, but I want the real-world experiences. I'd like to be part of an active group that really works with eachother. I really want 2012 to be injury free - and I want to build volume for a potential 140.6 in 2013.... and stop being a slow biker.

Name:Rudy B  (rudedog55)

Story: I started all this for a charity bike ride in June of 2008, i weighed about 260lbs, i signed up for the 12 mile ride, training went well, so i bumped it to the 25 miler. 2 and a half hours later and lots of cramping and a near fall where i could not pedal up a hill that resulted in a 6" scar on my legs i finished, totally spent, but it laid the groundwork for the next 4 years. I have since been doing Tri's and bike racing since that charity ride and have completed 2 half irons and a bunch of sprints and olympics. I currently weigh 203lbs on my way down to 190 hopefully by March 1 for the start of bike racing season.

Family Status: I am married with a 2 year old daughter.

Current Training: I am currently working with Coach John Hirsch, who is a professional triathlete. I am run focused right now, as a friend told me, train your weekness and race your strength.

2011 Races: Ridgefield CT sprint, Patriot Half Iron, Mossman Sprint and Martha's Vineyard Olympic. I PR'd at all 4 races, Set bike course records at both sprints and won clydesdale in the two longer races. I also got in about 15-20 bike races of varying disciplines from Criterium to TT and Cyclocross. I am currently a Cat 4 roadie with enough upgrade points to achieve Cat 3, which i will do in the spring of 2012

Planned 2012 Races:  Spring bike racing, REv3 Quassy, Patriot Half iron, Mossman Sprint and the Martha's Vineyard Oly,  as well as another 20 or so bike races

Weightloss: i was a skinny kid that got fat on booze and crappy food, i am currently on my third winter diet to lose the last 25lbs, i have already lost about 15 of those and have a little bit more to go.

Goals: I am an ultra competitive person, i set big goals and work my tail off to get to them, all while trying to maintain a life/family/race/training balance. It is not easy.

Rev 3:  Sub 5 hours, have a top 5 amateur bike split

Patriot: Sub 4h 45m, place in AG m40-44 and have fastest bike split of the race

Mossman: Sub 1h5m, place or win m40-44, lower my current bike course record

Martha's Vineyard: Sub 2h15m, top 5 overall, Sub 1hour on bike

5k: sub 20m

10k sub 40m

Bike racing: win the Bethel spring series Cat 4 class, upgrade to Cat 3. Place in a Cat 4 Cyclocross race and upgrade to Cat 3

Hi Fred - I would love to join this group.  I am working on my bio at the moment between getting some work done .  I will post that here shortly and look forward to being a part of the group.

ETA:  Here she be.

NAME: rymac / Ryan

STORY: I have always been athletic and played alot of sports in school, primarily hockey and basketball and played hockey in college for 2 years.  I really got into triathlon when I was getting into a healthier lifestyle about age 25 (2007).  I am 31 now.  I was already lifting weights 5 days a week when my friend asked if I wanted to do a sprint duathlon with him.  So I ended up borrowing my sisters (way too small for me) bike and started training.  My sister has completed IMCdA and IMFL before I ever got into the sport.  I did pretty well in that duathlon and decided to try a local triathlon 2 months later and was hooked at that point.   It was the 2009 season when I really got serious about training and seeing if I could really tap my potential and be good at this.  I am really focused on Olympic and HIM distance at this point and the future mainly because I really want to be fast at that distance and have a good base before I ever do an IM distance.

FAMILY STATUS: I am married and have an 8 month old daughter Keelyn.   Most of my training takes place very early in the morning and at my lunch hour to spend as much time with them as possible.  They have been great.

CURRENT TRAINING:  I am currently in a bike/run focus at this time.  I am running 5-6 days/wk (~40mpw) and biking about 3 days/wk (intense).  I have slowly built up my run mileage from 25mpw to 40 mpw since October utilizing easy runs.  Only in the last month have I added in one tempo session per week.  For the bike I am using TrainerRoad software and doing fairly intense workouts 3x week.  I am doing one VO2 session, one threshold session and then a longer tempo/threshold workout on the weekend.  I am also swimming 1x week currently to keep my stroke in tact before I make more time for swimming in Feb/March.  I also play hockey 1-2x week.  That equates to 8-10 hours per week and I hit that pretty consistently.  I train with power on the bike and pace/RPE on the run.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: We had our first little girl in April of 2011 so all my races were tentative until a couple weeks before.  I did PR a few early season running races at the 10K and 15K distance.  The 2011 triathlon season was all Olympic distance races for me as I adjusted to fatherhood and when/how I would be able to train consistently.  I definitely was a little disappointed with how my results turned out last year but based on the circumstances was probably too hard on myself.

2012 RACES:  I do have some pretty lofty goals for 2012 as my training has been really good the last half of the year and feel I am making some good progress.  The early season will be dedicated to running races (Jan-Apr) from 10K – Half Mary.   I have a HIM planned June 10 in Grand Rapids,MI and then another late season HIM in Tawas,MI.  I am also going to do several Olympics sandwiched between those.  I do have some time goals that I would like to achieve and they basically revolve around a PR in every distance .  Mainly a sub 4:45 HIM and sub 2:13 Olympic.

WEIGHTLOSS: I would like to eventually lose about 7 pounds as race season approaches.  I am currently at 165 and would like to be 158.  I really do not eat very well and am trying to work on that.

My Bio

Name: Bryan Logue (mndiver)

Story: I have been in triathlon for 7 years and credit it with quite possibly saving my life.  I was up to around 300 pounds and was going down hill fast.  I never really realized how out of control it had become.  I was a typical ex football/ weightlifter who ate way to much and moved way to little.  The one thing I had going for me was a great family and an extremely competitive spirit.  My wife had started running a few years earlier and my younger brother had run a few marathons and eventually I knew I had to give it a try.  I started with just getting a bike and starting to ride again.  No racing plans in mind and everything sort of blossomed from there. I am a self coached athlete who reads anything and everything I have time for and tries to filter through what is hype and what is really good.

Family Status: I am married to a fellow triathlete and both my 15 year old daughter and 10 year old son have competed in races.

Current Training:Bleak at best.  Every time I start to get things ramped up I have something come along and mess up progress I am hoping to get all the bad stuff out of the way.  Currently I am trying to recover from pneumonia.  I have been sick many times before, but nothing like this.  Before pneumonia I was doing my final hard 10 mile run of the year and thought I had strained a lower ab.  Turned out I had a hernia..  Last hard run popped it through much more than it was before.  I had sort of suspected something during IM training but was afraid to investigate.  That caused another 6 weeks off to surgery.  So I figure I have about another two weeks of zero to little training before I will be starting up again.

2011 races: I had a lot of good races at the sprint, oly and HIM distance this year.  I was able to set a lot of pr's and earn age group podiums at three races.  My only disappointing race came at Ironman WI.

2012 races: I was planning on a early season marathon to shoot for a sub 4 run.  Due to illness and injuries I am not sure if I will or not now as this would only be a B race.  I will do 5-6 shorter distance races again this year and then focus in on Ironman Arizona in November.  I am slightly considering the coaching route this year but am reluctant.  I hate to give away the autonomy of being my own coach yet have not been able to figure out how to execute a good race in three attempts.

Weight Loss: This is huge for me.  As I said earlier I was pushing 300# at one point.  I am currently around 220.  I have an extremely difficult time losing weight and keeping it off.  The 80# or so I have lost so far has all come over about the last 10 years.  It was never drop 30 and hit a plateau then drop another 20.  I lose very slow it seams, but give me a week of nothing but diving and eating in Mexico and I can throw 15 pounds on no problem.  My plan/goal is to toe the line at AZ weighing south of 200.

Why I would make a good mentee: I love the sport of triathlon.  I like to hear what other people think of different things and see what works and what doesn't.  I enjoy getting to know people better on the off chance you will someday meet them at a destination.  I had an opportunity to meet Fred this year and he turned out to be as genuine and nice in real life as I have seen him on BT.  When given a chance to join his mentor group I though it was a no brainer (my favorite kind)

Hope everybody has a good Christmas..looking forward to learning more about everyone.  I have been browsing through everybodys training logs just to get a glimpse.   I was able to get a good workout in today on the bike and hoping to play tomorrow in the trails for a good long run.  It would be a bit better if there was some snow on the ground .

Hey Fred, still got room?  Can't believe I have to ask that before they are officially live.   I am hoping to jump to Iron distance this summer and your type of experience is just what I am looking for.
