Well, this will be my last long ride before Kentucky. My last 100 miler!

Anyone want to join?

One option is starting from my house, riding up to a group ride, up to DFW Airport, and then around Las Colinas and back to my house. I know the roads and the route so this is the easiest for me.

Any takers?

Hey!  Do you have the route mapped?  Is there an option to cut it short if I wanted to?

remind me of the timeline again..
I know we start at your place, then join the group for their ride is the group a fifty miler?  then ride after to get teh miles in?
I just hate turning a long 6-6:30 ride into an all day deal with lots of stops. Do we have to wait for the group ride to start? and stop when they do??
then again I'm seriously thinking of riding the trainer for a bit before sunrise, riding outside for a few hours, then finish up the last hour on the trainer.. I'm such a heat wimp lately..

That sounds Great.   Hopefully we will be keeping our HR in a modest Z2.

Just let me know where and when.

Oh, and how bout a 2 to 3 mile run afterward? ? ? ?  Or is that too ambitious? ? ?

I just now read gary's thread.  I also agree.  A 6 hour ride is great so long as there are not toooo many stops. . . .

To answer a few questions:

1) I can map out a route so Marcy you and Steve and join us for a short loop in Las Colinas. I think the only challenge will be the timing of meeting up.

2) If we have 2 or 3 of us, we don't have to stop with the group for as long as they want. In fact, we don't even have to meet the group. We can go from my house and take the route they take and start racking up the miles. For me, I stop with the group so I won't be alone. BUT, let's be realistic here. I'm riding 6 hours, so with rest stop, this might be a 6 1/2 hour day. At least.

3) I didn't mention it before, but the average will be between 16-17 mph. It's a relatively flat course, but I'm not going to go all out since I know that I have 100 miles to do. For me it's all about pacing. There will be a few hills that I'll throw in though just for good measure.

4) I am scheduled to run after the ride, but I'll probably only do around 2.25 miles. There's a nice 1.25 loop around my apartment, or there is another 2.50 loop.

So, with all of that said, who is SERIOUS about doing this with me. If you are SERIOUS, then I'll map out a solid route and the plans will be made.

I mapped out a route.

I have a 100 mile option. Along with a 33/41 mile option or a 42/52 mile option.

Who's interested?

Here are the links to the maps:

Long route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2147652

Short route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2147794

I have a Word document that describes the routes better.

There are two areas where we need to add some miles on the 100 mile option though, otherwise we come in at 92 miles.

One place we do an out and back at the airport, which will add 4 miles but we will do it twice to add 8 miles. People can opt out of these 8 miles and wait for us at an intersection.

Or, we could opt to do a 2 mile loop twice, and the out and back at the tower once. These are decisions we can make easily on the road. Again, if the shorter route wants to opt out of this they can.

The shorter route will be either 33 to 42 miles or 42 to 50 miles. If you aren't up for more than 33/42 you can bail out easily before racking up to 42/50 miles. (Note: 33 is without the extra 8 miles, 42 is with the extra miless.... same for 42/50. So you have options to get extra rest and to keep the distance down.)

The shorter option would meet us off 635/Luna and park in a hotel parking lot (we have done it before and it was fine) at 8:00 AM. That is 15 miles into the longer route option, so we should be there by then.

The longer option would meet at my place off George Bush/Midway. We would start at 7:00 AM.

PLEASE let me know if you are interested in the 100 mile option. I won't do this route unless I have someone with me, which means the short route won't happen either.

Well, here's the headcount as of Friday morning...

Aimee P and I - 100 miler
Jonny and Kristi (cycling club friend)- short route

Rain? It better go away!

BTW- it will be the "day after my Birthday" ride... does that sell anyone on it? Plus, if you make the ride, you will be apart of my IM training memory! I know, neither of those really sell it.

I would like to join in on the 100 mile loop, but need to verify with the wife that its OK for me to be gone that long. I will confirm this evening after work.

Also, I am assuming that there are plenty of stores along the route to fill up with water etc.

Karen, can you PM me the details on where we are meeting up to start.

thanks

Expect to be gone from at least 6 AM (when you leave your house?) to 2:30 PM (when we start riding but then you need to drive home).

We will be using all our time.

The route we are riding is inner city so there are plenty of places to stop for water, etc. Our goal is to stop as little as possible and to hang out and rest as little as possible.

I'll send a PM.

I'm still a maybe.  It all depends on my bike re-assembly tonight.  I'll check back here tonight to say yea or nay and to find the chosen route if yea.

Happy Birthday!

So Sorry. . .   I'm out. . .  I have stuff tomorrow, so I got my ride in today.

113.20 miles on the bike, then 5 miles on the run.

It's all about the NUTRITION! ! ! !   The ride went well.  I stayed Hydrated, and my nutrition was great.  I thought I was only gonna run about 2, so I didn't bring any run nutrition.  I ended up doing 5 and the last 2 miles I could feel myself losing the umph I had with my proper nutrition.   So, the physical conditioning is great, but mess up the nutrition, and Your Out, Baby! ! ! !

Hope Y'all have a great workout tomorrow. . . .

HA! Thanks. Yeah, I'm still wondering how the ride ended up so many miles short! Although, I honestly think it was for the best that it wasn't an even 100 when we hit my house at the end.

AimeeP and I were hardcore though and we went and rode for another 13 miles to get the even 100. Even ended up circling my apartments parking lot for 1.5 miles so we could get it. We were NOT stopping till we hit 100!

Thanks to everyone who made it and who trusted me enough to take us out for that many miles! Thanks for being apart of my memory! I appreciate it!
