Registration opens 7/17 12:01am.  I know they are extending the the number of participants, but it could still sell out soon.  I plan on doing it.  I heard it is supposed to be in the 40's this year with a few clouds.....

This is one I will be at. Last year had good weather and a great crowd. By the looks of the cap growing, they expect a good turn-out=)

This will be my fourth.  I sure hate to see them extend the number of participants.  Those first 5 miles were quite difficult with the added amount of folks last year.

But it is still one of the best marathons around.  I highly recommend it. . .

I can't wait. . .

I'm in.  First race I've registered for in a long time where the race fee is it, no active.com or any other bs on top of it.

Sweet weather we're going to have race day!

Suppose I'll go sign up for the half. Though it's a bit longer then I'd like to race a running race. :p

I'm in too. I saw all kinds of Facebook whining about the registration not working or being slow, I woke up at 4:30 this morning and registered without a hitch. I've done the half twice, but this will be my first full. yeehaw

I had no problem registering at 7:30 am this morning.  I've decided to do the 1/2 once again...I am just not ready to commit to training for a full again.  Maybe when my kids are older and no longer want to spend time with me.

I agree that more people is going make for a very crowded 1st 5 miles!  For  those doing the full, I bet that most of the extra people will be doing the 1/2 so your course should get nice and open after the turnaround!

Although their server kept crashing, I got registered for the full this morning.  Field of 22,000 is evenly allocated to the half and the full.  This will be my third full, and have done three halves also, at Houston.  Yes, the first few miles can be quite crowded, so if your pace allows, it is important to get into the first corral, and try to avoid the first water break if you can.

This race is one of the best organized races going.  Crowds are good for most of the route (a bit thin from mile 19.5-22 or so due to lack of parking around Memorial park), weather can be great although January in Houston can think it is June sometimes, post-race food is good, etc.

This is a flat, fast course, an excellent one if you have a PR in mind!

TriPatrick, I am doing the same thing right now--training for Redman HIM mid-Sept along with Chicago marathon 3 weeks after that.  What I've done is rearrange my marathon program to add in the bike and swim workouts for a HIM.  It isn't perfect, but then I haven't been perfect in following it either.  Some days I just have to bag it, lately due to heat (it has been a ridiculous June-July in Houston), but sometimes due to just over-working my body...and I think you have to allow yourself to have a recovery day now and again.

My swim and run are up to snuff, but the bike is lagging for me...but I think this is always going to be the case, that one event will feel like it has taken a back seat to the other two.  Thhis will be my first HIM, so I am not worried about racing it hard, so maybe that is why I'm not too worried about the bike leg; but I do want to race well in Chicago, so am trying to place my emphasis on my marathon training, all while filling in with as much swim-bike as I can.

Since you have two months between the HIM and the marathon, I think you can follow your HIM training, but use a marathon training program to determine how long your weekly long runs should be.  Then, when you get past the HIM, you will have 5-6 weeks of good run-only training before you start your taper for Houston.

Just my two cents' worth--good luck!

I'll be at Redman and then I have the Marine Corps Marathon 4 weeks later. It sounds like we're on almost the same schedule!

Yep. . .   The race gets real nice after the folks in the half do their turn around. . .  But even with all the people at the start, this is such a great race.  The registration process, the expo, the support on the course. . . Everything is done VERY WELL.

Can't Wait! ! !

I'm in as well- my first full marathon.

I did read that they will enforce the 6 hour course closing.  I think I will be fine, but anyone who has done it before- is that true?  I would hate to get to mile 25 and get swept off the course!

X2.

My sister signed up for the 1/2. I really think my triing has inspired her and given her a bit of gusto to do this stuff. We're thinking about shirts and going with Team HI (her married initial and maiden initial) with names on the back saying Dominant Gene (for me) and Recessive Gene (for her).

Wow, the half is already sold out through open registration and it looks there are 1850 mary slots according to the website.

wildcat-  I was thinking i would go back to week 9 or 10 on one of higdon's plans.  I am using the BT HIM plan and I am up to a run of 8.5 miles in 1:15.  I think if I keep training by time in the HIM plan then move to distance a week after my HIM depending on how my body feels I should be able to get enough training in for a solid marathon.  I just need to take care of my body as this is my first for HIM and marathon.

Wow, both races sold out already!  CRAZY!  I can remember when I 1st started running, there were 2 years where I was training, but didn't register until the expo - the day before the race - because I wasn't sure I really wanted to do the full.  My how times have changed!
