Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have been trying to keep up on the 100 runs in 100 days thing, and it seems to be helping. However I have not been in the pool or on a bike in weeks. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Although it is quiet out there are a tonne of activities going on! I started that 100 runs in 100 days and forgot to keep posting my runs although I have been running alot out there. I've been enjoying the pool at St Clair College 2 to 3X per week. Riding my bike on the trainer and getting out once in a while on my mountain bike. I just bought a pair of riding tights that are wind and cold resistant so I hope to be getting out on my spare bike when the roads are good. The East Side and West side riders both have trail rides going on on the weekends. I think ESR still has the CCC rides on thursday night. Social running group is going full strength...the latest An evening of track speedwork at the Universsity of Windsor St Denis Indoor Track. Cost approximately $5.00 + parking cost (across the street). Show a little early. Date: Tuesday, January 5, 2010 Time: 7:30pm - 8:30pm Location: U of Windsor St Denis Center |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What Half are you doing? I am in for Sarnia's "hypothermic half" at the beginning of February. I am training for the Martian full again this year and have my fingers crossed for NYC in November. I plan on doing the Leamington, Loaring and Windsor Triathlons and if I do not get into NYC then will probably do Cedar Point 70.3 |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm planning to do Milton, Leamington, Steelhead, and Cedar Point. Clermont looks like fun Jeff. Are you still thinking about doing a race in BC in the spring? I came dangerously close to signing up for IM FL 2010, but thankfully it filled before I made up my mind. I'd still love to have a group of us sign up for 2011 and do some training together. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm planning on the Lung Association ride, Welland 70.3, MS Ride and Cedar Point. I would do the Rondeau race - but the swag is non-existant. Flat fast race though. |

![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() There is no swimming at the college on Wednesday. I was there Mon, Tues and today with no problem. As for my list of tri's this year I haven't decided, I'll probably play it by ear, but alot of the ones everyone mentioned sounds pretty good, so we'll see. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Wired, Did you do the Master Swim or the Lap Swim? On Monday I did the Master Swim but went for the lap swim on Wednesday and they had a list of all the days it was going to be closed. I am thinking that maybe the Master Swim still can happen because it's so early. David |

When does that one sell out normally? The 70.0 in Mukoska does not sell out quickly, but if you want to book a room at Deerhurst you should probably do it now. You can always cancel if you change your mind. If you don't book a room soon at Deerhurst you will be staying in Huntsville and unable to park at the race venue. Muskoka is a great race, but very tough. For a first half you should also consider Steelhead and Cedar Point, both of which are much easier and a shorter drive for you. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a place to stay in Muskoka and was going to make a mini holiday out of it. So its one of the two... Is Huntsville very much harder than Bracebridge? Also I want as much training time as possible. Is Steelhead pretty flat? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jspelay - 2010-01-16 7:17 PM I have a place to stay in Muskoka and was going to make a mini holiday out of it. So its one of the two... Is Huntsville very much harder than Bracebridge? Also I want as much training time as possible. Is Steelhead pretty flat? Yes. It's not flat like here - there are some rolling hills - but in comparison to most IM races it is flat. I wouldn't describe it as being flat, but my perception is skewed by the fact that it is TRULY flat here. However, the constant wind around here was good resistance and helped with the last 18mi that were into the wind last year at Steelhead. ![]() I can't imagine Huntsville and Bracebridge being much different. Beautiful part of the province but I can imagine they'd both be tough courses. It makes sense to plan for it if you have somewhere to stay and know people up there. It would be fun. I made a holiday out of Steelhead. We went down for a week, camped, ate out, etc. It was nice! Cedar Point is in also in September which would give you the whole season. It is more expensive though. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Steelhead is rolling enough to be interesting but not too tough. I have heard pros describe Muskoka as the toughest 70.3 in the world. Compared to Bracebridge it is more of everything, more hills, more participants, more hype, bigger expo, longer bike. Support from Huntsville and the towns that host the bike aid stations are pretty amazing. I have done Steelhead the last 4 years and to be honest it gets a little more mediocre every year. If you can be adequately trained and do enough hills in training then Muskoka is the race to do. If you want something easier for your first half then Cedar Point, which is the same weekend as Muskoka so it gives you training time and should be a very easy course, Steelhead or Welland are better choices. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hmmm... now I am thinking about Ceder Point. I think I will still lean towards Huntsville though, I love the area. I am training in Bruce county so I have some pretty good hill training areas. If I was still in Sarnia during the week I wouldnt be so optimistic about Huntsville. I guess I will know in the spring, and this is all assuming that I have this ITBS thing beat!! |
![]() ![]() |
New user![]() ![]() | ![]() My Husband did Muskoka last year as his first 70.3 and did it just under 6 hrs. We don't have anywhere other than overpasses to train for hills. If you are getting some decent hill training, go for it!! It is a beautiful race course, but apparently the run is very tough, and ITBS could prove to be a real problem for you. I am currently getting over ITB, and Patella femoral syndrome, and all I can advise is strength traiing for your glut med, and do lots of it!! I have learned through my injuries that the glut med plays more of a prt than I think we all know. If you aren't seeking physio, I strongly suggest it, before it becomes worse. Contrary to popular belief, massages won't fix your ITBS. Good luck! |
