Woohooo!

It's bad ass. The training software is even cooler. I had it 5 min before gearing up and doing a bike LT test. Downloaded the data to training center and could see exactly how my heart rate changed over time. Like a dyno, for my heart! I'm such a geek. I LOVE it.

Although, the automatic HR zones are crap. Had to reprogram those by hand, but other then that I'm completely satisfied so far. I have a LSD run tomorrow, so that will be it's debut for the GPS feature.

FYI, the bike mount is worth every penny of the $15 I spent on it.

Your right it is bad *** I have had one for a while. I just wanted to tell ya that I would not take it anywhere near H20 mine will not download anymore i think because it got wet. It still works except for that and i use it all the time. By the way I have tried just about every other hrm/distance device there is(nike elite, polar 625x, suntro, timex ect) and the 301 is the best.Check out the website for garmin they have some good downloads that will help the 301 work better. However there you will see the new new 305 ohhh well 301 is still good lol.
Enjoy your toy!

yea, i tried on a 305 and didn't like it. My wrists are skinny and having it run along my arm is more comfortable then around my wrist. Plus, the long design fits my bike a lot better

The 201 was one of the best purchases I have ever made. And my wife who borrows it occasionally - agrees. If I didn't have so many other Triathlon items to buy I'd be looking at the 301.

the addition of the HR on it is worth it's weight in gold. They did a fantastic job of integrating the GPS and HR monitor together to combine the data, especially in the PC software. From my run today I have a plot of my altitude change and you can clearly see in my HR plot and pace plot overlayed how much effort certain hills were and how much I had to slow to maintain.

The only bad thing is that it can't auto figure your HR zones worth a crap. You really need to manually test and set your own zones.

I appreciate this thread! I went to check out the 305 on Garmins website and saw that they now offer the new training software for 201 users. What an awesome company Garmin is. Continually upgrading their software and providing free downloads to their customers. Many other products would require you to upgrade.

Here's a Print Screen taken of one of my recent runs uploaded to their new training software.

My FAVORITE feature.  I used to obsess about run routes...always wanting to know the distance.  Now I just...GO!   It has made long runs fun again.

I don't know about the whole " making it fun again". If the 301 had a litlle speaker that yelled Mr. T sayings like " don't quit on me now you dumb fool " and other insulting motivational phrases, now that would make it more fun to run long distances.

Why do everyone else's HR graphs always look so smooth and mine always look so jagged?

no idea but that is REALLY jumpy.  I know wearing synthetic fiber shirts (dri-fit) can cause static that screws with it and makes it read irraticly.  Maybe you should go run shirtless one day and see if that helps Wink.  There is also a semi-rare heart arythmia that confuses HR monitors and makes them do crazy stuff.  It's not lethal or detrimental to your health, just screws with the monitors

*sigh* As with many other things in my life...I'm just gonna blame it on the boobs.  All that bouncing CANNOT be good for the HRM.

Hmmmm...SO WEIRD.  I noticed on your graph that your HR Zones were overlayed on the graph.  I don't have them on my Garmin Training Center graphs so I was poking around the GTC software trying to find that option.  I couldn't find it.  So I went to the Garmin site to see if there was an update to the software.  There WAS.  Now my HR graphs look much smoother..I wonder, does the new software update take some kind of average curve or something?  And what I had before was raw data?  I wish I could remember how to do a screen shot so I could show you what the HR graph above NOW looks like...

EDIT:  Aha...the graph now has a 'smooth data' option...try unsmoothing yours and tell me what it looks like

much bumpier.  It's only for an 1.5 hours so I could see extending it to 5 and squishing it could make it look like yours.   Are you using the Garmin zones or ones you programed in?

I manually enter them based off the LT tests I've done.  Yeah, that's a bit more like what mine usually look like.  Though, still smoother than some that I've generated!

Yep - only mine shows Altitude, Distance and Pace since I don't have the heart monitor model. Really like that I can click and drag on the chart and see on the map where I am fast/slow.
