Ironman 70.3 Mont Tremblant : Official Thread

Mont Tremblant is as beautiful as the pics on the website. The area is known for mosquitos and this will be peak period, they are very hungry. So mosquito repelent would be a good addition to your list of "to bring".

Hilly course but the total elevation (from ridewithgps.com) is about 1400m cumulative, spread over 90km, it is a not too demanding. Except for the 2km 8% gradiant Ryan hill, it should be fun to climb. Go ride in the Berkshires, Vt or NH.

Try not to go threw Montreal at peak traffic (3pm to 7pm). That may add a lot of time.

It is a 3 day weekend (National holiday, St-Jean Baptiste) and the roads will be busy. Going to and on your way back. Plan on leaving Monday after the race...

I'm in too! This will be my first HIM, so I am very excited. Also hope as Michel mentioned that the black flies will stay quiet, my daughter is like a magnet for these.

I see that on Jun 09th the Mt-Tremblant triathlon (Oly and Sprint - http://www.triathlonmonttremblant.com/ - no english version so far) that used to be on the formula 1 track is moving to the Resort and I understand will share a portion of the course for the HIM and IM. That makes 3 triathlons in the same place from June to August!

So as some folks who registered for the IM were considering doing the 70.3 also, I may ask if some of you will do the Sprint or Olympic on June 09th?

ok, is the water really going to be 65 degrees? yikes!

i am new at this and have not been in the water outside of texas. do y'all wear anything special given the water temp or would you suggest anything for someone who is concerned about the cold?

65 degrees isn't too terrible. The first 5 mins suck, but once you pee in your wetsuit its all good

Hopefully they let us in to warm up (literally!)....plus, once they yell go and you and 150 of your newest and closest friends start with the hand to hand combat in the water, the last thing you will be thinking of is the cold water.

Otherwise.....they do sell neoprene caps and booties. But 65 isnt too bad. Below 60 and I might break that stuff out.

I am coming in on friday so hopefully I will be able to get in the water on saturday.

Given my current run fitness, The water temp should be the least of my worries!

Hope everyone's training is going well. 9 weeks to go until race day! I just did the Boston Marathon this past Monday, so I'm still in recovery mode. I'll be ramping up my bike volume while halving my run mileage (from marathon training) to get in a good 6-7 weeks of high bike mileage before the race.

It also looks like the bike and run courses were changed slightly from the original plan. The bike is still quite hilly, but the run looks a little flatter than before.

10 km worth of the run is also on a gravel path so a little easier on the knees.  

It'll be my first HIM as well which shall make things interesting.  I'm also quite used to super cold waters so 65 is entirely fine by me!

Haven't been online recently, but wanted to chime in and say Hi!  I am also doing Tremblant 70.3 as my inaugural HIM.  Hills hills hills!  Going to be fun.  Been out to Rigaud to practice but mostly indoor simulated hills.

Black flies should be over by then but Mosies will be out...Just have to go faster .

Anyone did the Olympic in Tremblant last saturday? Any lesson learned to share?

This "chemin duplessis" was quite a ride on the bike..... I will make sure to get my nutrition BEFORE attacking this bit. 

There's quite a lengthy thread on the MT course over on slowtwitch - around 130+ posts with details on recon from those who have ridden and run the course.
