Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have been the DJ for the Okie Noodling tournament the past 4 years (something I got volunteered for since my wife is one of the event coordinators.) Above is my playlist from last year. The crowd is pretty diverse so I try to play a mix of music that is good old classic rock, blues, bluegrass, outlaw country, red dirt country, classic country, nashville country, beer drinking songs, country pride songs, and fishing songs. The music is mellow early, then it turns into more upbeat beer drinking music. Then, as the evening wears on and the alcohol begins to flow, I play more party/dancing/sing-alongs. But, being a new dad, I'm not in the music scene much anymore. So COJ, do you have any newer songs that I should add to the list? Or even older music that I am overlooking? |

![]() | ![]() I'd probably add the following: Merle Haggerd's Okie from Muskogie Jerry Jeff Walkers' Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long and some rap song (rednecks dancing to Rock or Rap is just amusing) |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There's a bluegrass band called Luther Wright and the Wrongs that covered Pink Floyd's The Wall. Called it Rebuild the Wall. It sounds like the stupidest idea, but it's surprisingly awesome. Here's their version of Comfortably Numb. |

"Beer Run" by Todd Snider: 2). Anything by Hank Williams Jr. 3). If this is a "not for kids"/adults-only show/concert, then I HIGHLY recommend David Allan Coe's "XXX Underground" LP - NOTE: THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLE SONG FROM HIM IS, HIGHLY EMPHASIZED, NSFW!! Don't say I didn't warn you: 4). Hayseed Dixie, a bluegrass foursome, that play hard rock/heavy metal covers, and do some mean versions of AC/DC tunes. Edited by 1stTimeTri 2013-05-02 11:31 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If you are not yet familiar with Yonder Mountain String Band, get some. It's more of a Colorado pot smoking hippie scene than old time bluegrass, but if you lay down a live cut of "Raleigh and Spencer" you will get any human being with a pulse and legs, up dancing. It's on their mountain tracks vol 1 or 2. |

Definitely and all ages event. I have played Hayseed Dixie in the past with mixed reviews. Lots of confused looks on the faces of the festive goers. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What about some more modern country songs? It seems like there hasn't been some of the more obvious suggestions...(or maybe I missed them.) Redneck Yacht Club - Craig Morgan Alcohol - Brad Paisley Red Solo Cup - Toby Keith Hillbilly Bone - Blake Shelton (pretty much and of his songs would be redneck...He has a song called "Kiss My Country A$$ "...) Redneck Woman - Gretchen Wilson (Might be "old" enough that people actually haven't heard it recently...) One it sounds like some of the women may appreciate...although I appreciate it more for the humor side than for the abusive husband side... Goodbye Earl - Dixie Chicks Other Entertaining (somewhat recent songs) As Good As I Once Was - Toby Keith Country Girl (Shake it For Me) - Luke Bryan (Also a good redneck song resource..."Take My Drunk A$$ Home" - I'm not familiar with that one...) My Kinda Party - Jason Aldean Not country, but an LMFAO song is probably appreciated by all. "Sexy and I know It" is a good one. Ke$ha (We R Who We R or ??) or Lady Gaga (Born This Way or ??) Have fun!! ETA: I didn't realize things were automatically censored/edited... Edited by lkct01234 2013-05-02 3:05 PM |

My son listens to Luke Bryan
I had to take my daughter to a Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton concerts and I have to admit that they were a lot of fun. They were entertaining and the crowd was very polite. She is somewhat of a hipster who drags me to all sorts of stuff. |

My son listens to Luke Bryan Country Girl (Shake It For Me) by Luke Bryan is a must. It gets played during the Okie Noodling Queen contest. Which is quite interesting. Edited by ray6foot7 2013-05-02 4:24 PM |

What a shame they don't hit OK in their touring, they are simply awesome fun to see live. You and your wife truly do need to see them even if it means planning a trip or vacation around where they are playing. I'm fortunate that I live in PA and they come here or MD fairly often. I've seen them more times than I can remember, joined in the on-stage chicken throwing fray of '8-Piece Box' once, gave Cousin Crispy a hug before a show once. Wish he was still with them, he really added something, IMO. Ham n x. Yeah, the Reverend is lotsa fun, too. Only saw him live once, but it was good. Edited by melbo55 2013-05-03 1:13 PM |
