Looking forward to my first HIM too. 2004 I attempted this one and was doing real well until I got lost on the bike. This time I KNOW the bike course. Don't live over 60-70 miles away, so I may get a chance to ride the course beforehand in case I should get race dementia and want to get lost again. Have done 30 sprints and 3 olys and never come close to getting lost. I am coming back with a vengeance myself. It is doubtful I will be a threat to anyone on this forum as I will be racing as a 67 year old. The rule at the this age is; if you survive, you get hardware.....  |

I decided to chase the skinnes in the 35-39 AG rather than defending my clyde title. I ride most of the course every Saturday at sunrise if anyone wants to meet up. We can meet at my house or another location if needed. |

Last year, it got lonely out on the run and the hills/slopes (and hydration issues) did me in. I'm guessing that the elevation will be much flatter (better for me), plus I'm more inclined to bring my family this year. |

On the way back in just a mile or so down Walden Rd. there are some pretty big cracks in the pavement on the shoulder and some deep potholes in the right lane. The DOT painted around the edges of most of them, but missed a few. Just be careful on that section of the route in training. I'm guessing the race organizers will make sure these hazards are well marked during the race. |

Pro 4824 Houston | Subject: RE: Iron Star Triathlon : Official Thread On another note about the course - when you are going into Richards just past the winery the road gets bumpy, it is only for a short time but the first time I rode it I didn't see it coming and it launched me over my aero bars. All was good and I saw it coming and held on better the second time I rode the course but for those of you on the light side you might want to make sure you are holding on tight. It is a great course though and I am looking forward to riding it again but probably not until race day. |

For those that have ridden the bike course can you give me some insight? Hilly, relatively flat, good pavement etc.. I have looked at the elevation on the course map and it looks like a few hills but mostly gentle grades?? What about the swim-sounds like has been wetsuit legal last few years. For those in the area what do you think? Over here we have had a pretty warm Fall but temps have beend dropping a good bit over night. Thanks Randy |

Extreme Veteran 350 Houston Bronze member | Subject: RE: Iron Star Triathlon : Official Thread the bike course is fairly hilly with gentle grades...just hilly enought to make it a little more challenging than most of the races here in the houston area..i enjoy the course.... i have ridden it twice training....i like the hills personally because you have the recovery on the backside....it is a beautiful ride through a national forest that is for the most part fairly shady...the pavement is good as well...as for the swim and the run...this is my first year to do it so i am curious as well.... have a safe trip over here and good luck! The end of the week has lows in the mid 40's, so I would bet it will be wetsuit legal. I would like to meet some BTers Saturday or after the race on SUnday. We live about 10 miles away, but this year I chose to get a room so my wife and 2 sons (9weeks and 3 years) will have a place to stay during the ride. Last year my wife did not enjoy standing around chasing the boy. The change in run course will be good for the family as well., |

I know we've raced a lot of the same races, it seems odd we haven't met yet. Maybe we could have a meet up time when we pick up our packets? |
