Hi!  Anyone doing Guelph 2 in a couple of weeks?  It will be my first, and I'm doing the try-a-tri.  Do any veterans have words of wisdom they'd like to share?  Thanks

I am doing the Guelph 2 Try a Tri as well.

Last weekend I did the Try a Tri at Rondeau (Bulldog Triathlon). It was my first time and I loved every min of it. All the advice that "Bopper" mentioned is great!! Hopefully you have practiced in the lake...it's very different than the pool.

When i crossed the finish line, I cried!! It was such an amazing feeling to accomplish something like this! And yes...it is addicting!

Good luck!

Yay Dental Mom!  I'll be the totally ghetto looking girl with the rusting out mountain bike, no wetsuit, bright pink tank top and fluorescent orange hat.  Have a great race!

Bopper's comments are excellent.

I did the Try-a-Tri at Guelph and Guelph II last year.  It is a well run event.

Hydration may be key as well as the TaT is in the afternoon at Guelph II, so it could be warm.

Thanks!  A good point... do they have water stations on course, or do you have to have your own? (thinking the run specifically..)

There is water on course,  but I don't remember how many stations.

There would be at least one on each direction of the out and back, I would suspect.

Good luck to all of you doing Guelph Lake II.  threw my back out and won't compete here, but will def. be at Lakeside!

All I remember from last year was +36 degrees with the humidex!   The run was absolutely gruesome.... And that was for the sprint in the morning!  The poor buggers who did the try a tri later that day got the full brunt of it!!!

Looks like weather will be more favourable this year for ya!  Again..good luck and have fun!

Don't forget to arrive at the venue early, especially for your first race. Parking, packet pick up, marking, lines for the porta-john, setting up transition, and all the necessities take longer than you expect. Getting there early relieves a good deal of the stress and allows you to take a good look around transition to see where you enter/exit and make sure you have your bearings, plus get in a bit of a warmup.

Couldn't agree more that the run up from the swim is something of a chore. Don't redline it there as the cost later could be considerable.Watch for rocks in the grass, this isn't a great place to stub a toe.

Watch out for bike traffic at the turnaround on the bike, things get bunched up and dicey in a hurry if you're in the middle of a lot of bodies.

Your first race will likely be the biggest learning opportunity of your triathlon career - keep that in mind and have an absolute blast. Best of luck!!!! Guelph is a great venue.

For those doing the sprint the bike course has been changed because of construction. Now it's two loops instead of an out and back.

Nerves are starting!  EVERYONE is asking how I'm feeling and if I'm ready... Hope it's just excitement about a new experience and not my sub-conscious telling me "there's no WAY you're ready for this!".  :S  ahh!

I'm doing the Sprint Tri at Guelph Lake tomorrow --- and am slightly nervous! I've done it before, but I'm on a new bike in which I still feel wobbly on.

Good luck to all you that will be there!

haha!  finished 6 places behind you! :D  So brutal and so awesome and so much learned and I've already set goals for next year.  I was hoping for 1 hour, and came in at 57 minutes even.   Had an awesome bike, and an abominable run, and the weirdest swim ever, but it was just great! The wind waved me from the heat, but got quite fried, as I was out there early to watch the sprint race.  Good day for you?

I loved it. I was very happy with my swim and the bike was good but I hated the run...I hate hills!! I need to focus on more run training this winter!

So glad you enjoyed it!!

I had an absolutely awful race. Arggg... but I finished! So that's what counts! Even though it was 20 + min longer than I've ever done it.
