Subject: Netflix v. others

Here's the deal. I don't have a sofa and don't want to buy one (I watch far less tv than I used to and am happy with it)...anyway, I've been enjoying only watching tv or movies while on the trainer and want to keep it that way. I'm not a big movie person, I like them, but don't go to Blockbuster regularly-probably b/c I don't want to pay $5 to watch some crappy movie and go spend 20 min. at the store picking it out and returning it.

Anyway, is Netflix the leader in this service? I think Blockbuster and Hollywood have internet renting too, what would you guys suggest based on experience and price? How much do these services cost, and is the delivery/return process easy? What about the selections, tv shows, documentaries, etc?

Thanks.

Used it for a while. Stopped when I moved, will be starting again soon.

BB online is about the same, I mostly stick with Netflix just to spite blockbuster. Here's the prices listing: http://www.netflix.com/HowItWorks?lnkctr=nmhhiw

Totally worth it if you're on your trainer regularly, especially with the 3 at a time. You can pretty much ensure that you'll have a new DVD waiting any time you want to ride.

I have greencine.com

a smidge cheaper, and there is a ton of less mainstream stuff, I esp like watching documentaries and some foreign stuff bc then I really have to concentrate and I almost forget the pain I am in! I also watch a lot of anime...

Is that where you got that Al Jazeera documentary?

I also watch a lot of anime...

I should introduce you to my old roomy... bookshelves FULL of anime DVDs... the posters kinda creeped me out.

Netflix is great.  We have the four at a time service that runs around $24 per month. The unlimited three at a time runs around $18. Turnaround is really fast.  Usually, we get a replacement two days after posting the return.

I second the Netflix choice. It's great to be able to list all the movies you want to see and have them show up at your house. The recent thread about cult movie jacked up my Netflix list. We've Netflix for over a year and have been very happy with the speed and quality of the service.

My vote is Netflix. As mentioned, 3 at a time unlimited for 18 bucks a month. They have distribution centers all over the country, so the turn around time is very fast. If I mail them out on the Monday, the get back to Netflix on Tuesday. They'll send my next movies out that same day, and I have them on Wednesday. Can't beat that.

I've been really happy with Netflix recently.  It takes a day for them to get my movie, and they turn around and ship me the next one.  If I send one back Monday morning, I have a new one in the mail by Wednesday afternoon.

This has been especially good on the TV series catching up.  I've been through Lost, Rescue Me, and 2 seasons of Nip/Tuck in the last 2 months without a hassle.

They could use some more of the sports-related material, like the TdF and IM dvds, but that is probably just my affinity for them.

Ohhh Nip/Tuck! I watched the first season and didn't start again. See, I don't keep up.

This is great everyone, I think I'll sign up today. Far cheaper than Blockbuster and more convenient. It was cheaper for me to buy 24 and LOST than rent it, and this seems like a steal even if I only rent several a month.

I had Netflix and wasn't real happy with it. The one thing with them is you have to live near one of their distribution points. The nearest one to me is in Atlanta, and it took a week to get the next set of movies. I now just use the Hollywood MVP program.

You'll probably get them before you even request them. Plus...here's a cool thing about Netflix: you can share your rental que with others, and recommend movies to friends and vice versa.

Netflix doesn't do porn.

But they do have netflix-like services for that particular genre. I think one is called "netlix". Another is "netflixxx".

(and yes I just made those up)

It looks like Possum's site has a sister site that is nothing BUT porn.  www.bluecine.com

Yes, I *am* the sad guy who's ears perked up at porn and had to check it out.  Innocent

I had netflix in Denver, but stopped it when I moved to rural Nevada.

Anyone have netflix but live outside (far outside) an urban center and can tell me what the turnaround time on the movies is?
