I am looking to do a training swim at Nahant Beach this coming weekend if anyone wants to join me. I have only done one ocean OWS this year (on the Cape), no swimcap, no goggles,  and would love the company on a more "official" OWS. The water is cold, but since my tri will be cold, it is appropriate.

If I'm in town this weekend, I may join you.  I'm signed up for Wild Fish 2miler the week after, but haven't done any real swimming since July 3rd.

Yay! Seems like there is interest to do this! How about Saturday since only one person noted a preference. If it is a nice day the parking gets pretty busy around 10am, so maybe we could plan to start around 10am? Or earlier, I am pretty open if someone else wants to suggest a time!

Earlier the better for me too.  I'd like to start by at least 8.  What are we looking at for bike distance?  Maybe a loop of 20 so people can do one or two?

rcberto, I just re-read your post - are people planning to bike from Nahant after the swim? I was just coordinating a swim, not a swim/bike, but I sure there would be interest for both...

I am planning to bike 60ish which could be from there or elsewhere - have not even looked yet....I would do shorter if lots of hills involved....

Yeah, at least a few of us are hoping to get a good ride in. We could all also just meet up at Walden instead. There are many great bike routes from there and the swim is probably much more pleasant.

Cat,

I am in for a 60mile ride - I do not know the area at all - I typically avg 19ish.  I will cancel my Tin Man Century, as I didn't really feel like driving to Mt. Washington anyhow.  Adding the swim would be great too.  I am in favor of eariler the better 7 or 8AM.

Umm, where is Nahant Beach - could you post a link of where we will meet or address for the GPS?

Thanks and looking forward to swimming and riding with you guys/girls.

I was planning Nahant Beach because I want an OWS in the ocean. I swim a lot in lakes and since my Tri is in the ocean I want that practice, since for me, it feels totally different. That's why I suggested a beach swim. I am planning a long run that day after my swim, not a long bike like many of you. I love to run for miles on Nahant Beach because it is very hard sand and is much better for my knees than roads/trails, especially in the heat.

So maybe we can split this into a group who wants an OW ocean swim at Nahant/whatever after for bike, and just OW lake swim/bike people can plan a trip to Walden Pond?

ok, so in looking for good rides, there are none really right at nahant (only like a 20 miler).  The choice becomes (for those of us who have long rides to saturday) swim at nahant and then drive to where we can ride or swim at walden and ride from there (tons of choices).

I am happy to do either.

Hey Curlzrn,

I am doing the nantasket beach tri in Sept.  This weekend i am actually working/on call so I can't travel far - just Walden Pond.  But I would love to do OWS maybe next weekend?

So is anyone planning to swim with me at Nahant this Saturday? If not I will just plan a swim on my own or go on Sunday, whichever day has better weather. Thanks again, and let me know if anyone wants to do an ocean swim in the next few weeks!

I might be interested in a Saturday swim this weekend. I've never been to Nahant, and have always wanted to go. If people want to do early, that's fine, but the later the better for me, since I'm coming from Boston. And there's parking???

For anyone interested a swim IS happening tomorrow at Nahant Beach. We are meeting at 9am in the parking lot at the beginning of the beach near the Dunkin Donuts. PM me if you want my cell  number for the meet up.
