Alright you guys, it's been too long that no one has posted here, so here I go. How is everyone's training goign for the Victoria Half? We should try and meet up for a dinner or coffee a couple of days before the race what do you guys say? Let me know, I know a ton of good places to eat.

Cheers,

Mike

Sounds like you are doing well. I went out on Saturday and did the bike course in 2:59:38 and then did the run in 1:39:16 so I was pretty happy with that. If I have a good swim I am looking at under 5:30 total time so that would make me pretty happy. Hopefully we can all get together before race day anyway, speak to you soon,

Cheers Mike

I know it's Mother's Day weekend, so I have a mandatory visit to the island coming up.

If anyone is interested in joining me, I am planning on doing the bike leg (90k) of the HIM, on Sat 13th 9am. Meet at Hamsterley Beach and go from there.

I'm just curious to see the terrain, so it won't be a killer workout unless the first loop is a breeze. Guessing on about 3-4hrs?

LMK

Cheers

Scott

Yeah, you're about spot-on with that guesstimate. I'd say about 3.5 hours. It is a hilly route, so your pace is going to be a bit lower (I do a route that overlaps with the half iron route at about 23-24 km/h) and at times, a little confusing (road names change at certain points)... but it's a pretty decent course. It may take you a little longer with traffic though.. some intersections take forever to change over.

Wish I could join you - I've got an early morning class and a wedding in the afternoon that day! Enjoy your ride and have fun with your mum!

Hey Leah,

Are you heading to Vic this weekend? I will be there for bike racing. The Sooke RR and the Bastion Square Grand Prix. If you're there we should meet up?

You guys are going to be in Vic? Do you know what time the Bastion grand prix is on? That would be a great race to watch. Usually I am working but I am off this year. If you are riding on Saturday I am riding the half iron course at around 9-10am so if you want to meet for a ride drop me a PM. Anyway, hope you have a good time in Vic.

Later all.

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Mike,

Being a cat 4 woman, I had an early start time in Victoria last weekend, but I did all right. I really enjoy crits. Much more so than road races.

Hope to meet some of you there, it should be a fun weekend, me and a buddy of mine are going to hit the course on Friday and do the swim, followed by a lap of the bike and a lap of the run, I will let you guys know how the lake is.

Okay all, here is the update. Friday me and my friend Trevor swam the course and I have one word to describe it...MURKY... You can barely see 1/2 a foot around you at all times!!!! It certainly made it interesting. ON the plus side the water was not super cold so that was good. We also did a lap of the bike and a lap of the run. Can't wait only 9 more days!!!

Cheers,

Mike

What day and where is this race?  I'm heading up to Victoria tomorrow and will be there through Sunday 6/18.  Been in Seattle this week on vacation, and jumping on the ferry tomorrow.

We're staying near the harbor right in town.

There's been discussion about BT'ers in Vic for the NB Tinman at Elk Lake getting together on Sat evening for an informal dinner/carbo load before the race.

Anyone interested? Ideas on where? Time - maybe after the race meeting?

Let's get something going so we know who we're cheering for.

Cheers

Scott

Hey Dr Leah, just so you guys know, Pagliacci's does not take reservations so you might want to get there early otherwise it can be a long wait as it is a fairly popular place to eat. Another good place for pasta is Il Terrazo although it can be a bit on the pricier side of things.

Now that will be cool!!

It's on Sunday, all waves should be off on the swim by 7:15-ish.  It's at Hamsterly Beach at Elk Lake.  Here's the link for the course info:

http://www.island-multi-sports.com/Half%20Iron/NB_Half_Course_Info.htm

I passed Elk Lake today on the bus going out to Buchardt Gardens.  Looks like a nice place to have a tri.  Unfortunatley a little too far to travel without a car, but would be interested in meeting you for dinner Saturday.  I don't have to be racing to have an excuse to carbo-load. :-) and meet other BT'ers.
