Subject: Fall Century

I'd like to do a century this fall (ideally 100miles but I'd settle for a metric if I don't get the training done).  I'm looking at the Blue Water Ramble on Oct. 5 which starts in St. Clair and goes into Canada and back (to add to that time I ran into Canada and back!).  Yes, I realize it is the same day as the Brooksie Half Marathon.  Anyone interested?  Any other tours you've done or plan to do?  I know its early but I can't imagine doing this by myself.... takers?  Buehler?

I know this is surprising, and I ride slower than you, but I would consider doing this.  I might change my mind after my coffee kicks in this morning but I am definitely thinking about this one.

I don't know, you looked pretty fast on Sunday!  I would love the company.

And its a century- this would be a leisurely thing.  (lots of breaks for snacks and drinkies)

For some reason, I'm imagining a picnic basket bunge strapped to my aerobars....

I'll mark this down as a maybe.

Great choice, J.  I do this ride every year, tho not always the century.  I could maybe be talked into crying through a century with my two houndmates.  Hope for little to no wind on the Canadian side.

Oh, and make sure you have a passport.  They do check them coming back on the ferry.

Is this a joy ride or a race? Also can you use tri bikes of do you have to use road bikes? If a joy ride I would like to do the century.

Think joy ride.

How long do the ferries typically take? I'm all for some down time and snacking, etc. but wouldn't want to be waiting long for ferries.

TIA

Hmmmm...is it a crappy weather ride? I have done the Apple Cider Century on the west side of MI a few different times. It is the last sunday in September...very pretty, rolling hills, family style ride. The weather can be a bit POOPY though...that would be my only holdback on doing an October ride...

How have the rides been Girlwithonenose?

I'm not going to say, for fear of jinxing a good trend.  That should give you enough info.  The ferries, depending on time of day and number or riders waiting could take anywhere from 5 minutes wait time to maaayyybe 1/2 hour.  You def cool down on the ride over both ways, too.  But it is a nice ride.  The century takes you up into Port Huron and there is a section that surprised me by being in Michigan!

We actually had the Blue Water Ramble on our calendar. That day's my 30th bday...what better way to celebrate? Okay, I can think of lots of better ways, but we do need to be getting some long rides in...

I'm out, unfortunately, due to Brooksie.

But I've heard feedback that that 100 is a 10-hour affair, with the ferries involved. I can't imagine. Erg.

We may actually have to do some sort of crazy modified route. Not so sure about all the down time with ferries/customs on the 100 miler...I don't think we get to count that as part of our scheduled 6 hour ride! Maybe we'll do the 65 with you guys and then do another out and back on the course to get our time in?

Yeah- that sounds like a plan!  Then you don't have to wait around for the ferry-but still get to have snacks & lunch  (or does that blow the ride, too?).

We hear consistently good thinngs about this ride from our customers. A good sign is that they tend to do it over and over again, every year.

A hundred miles just seems so darn long this time of year- but then again, I am not in Ironman mode this year.

There are always big groups on rides like this so you may show up by yourself but you'll leave with new friends.

I

I'm definitely thinking I'll be in for the 65 mile route (which is 100k and some change!!), so now I'm just trying to talk hubby into it.

What better warm up for the Detroit Marathon than a nice ride with some fellow BT peeps?
