I was able to talk with Tom about our group coming over to visit Bikesport in Michigan. He was very receptive to the idea of having a Canada night. They will conduct a bike or wetsuit clinic for us or we can bring gear and ride the commutrainers. They will have special promotions for us that night or some extended period to buy gear. We just need to let them know what we want. Tuesdays they are open until 9:00pm and it would be ok if we ran longer. My suggestion is Feb. 24th. We could start the clinic around 7:00 or 7:00pm to give people enough time to get there.

What do you want to do or learn about?
I am wanting to try a few different saddles and maybe a bike fitting.

Who's in? We need 8 to 10 people.

Tim

They're in Dearborn right?  It's over and then 94 to Michigan Ave?

I think it's near Merchant's (which has the most amazing selection of beer!!).

I'm in! Tuesdays are good for me.  Any Tuesday is fine - but later in the month is better.

I'm looking for a wetsuit.  I'm getting my bike fitted sometime soon - so I won't do a bike seat until that's done.  Maybe some new aerobars?

It will take about 40 minutes from downtown Windsor give or take 15minutes depending on the border traffic. Most traffic after work is coming into Windsor, so the crossing times should be good.

Great idea Tim. I have bought a couple of bikes and assorted gear from Bikesport, and if you can get Tom's undivided attention on something he can be a huge help. People who have negative things to say about Bikesport or Tom generally just walk in and sometimes find that they are being ignored while Tom spends hours with another customer. Making an appointment as you are doing guarantees that you will be the ones getting his attention.

I have not tried any of the bars around there, but there is an amazing Lebanese restaurant about a block away. Tuesday night should work for me. My bike rack is still mounted on my car (can't get the dang thing off) so I should be able to drive if we need to bring some bikes over.

I'm not sure what to suggest for a clinic or topic for our visit. Getting a bike fitting on your own bike there is generally expensive unless you buy the bike from him, but Tom might give a general clinic on bike fit. Trying a variety of saddles would be interesting if he is willing to mount them all on the trainer. I switched to an Adamo last year and I'm happy with it so I'm probably not going to buy a saddle. I think Tom has an article on his website about wetsuit fitting (you should definately have a look at the website before you go as he has some very good articles, and he is probaby advertising some sales), although when I bought a wetsuit there I just tried everything on and did not get much help.

Both of the bikes that I bought from Bikesport were bought in the fall or early winter, and the prices were really good. The last time that I was there Cervelo and Felt were his major brands. Both are North American made bikes, so there should be no duty at the border.

Dave

I need a new helmet.  I thought of this one last night - this is a HAVE-TO have ... my helmet is 8 years old - and doesn't match my new bike. *which is the important detail*

I am IN for sure.  I need peddles and runners for my bike and would like to be fitted for my bike too.

I am comming from Essex - so I can pick up anyone up from Windsor on my way by.  Dave, let me know if you want to come with me too!

I will bring my bike and have room for others in my mini-van.

Tracey

OK group, here is the latest info.

Tuesday February 24th 6:00pm Bikesport Michigan.

Tom has most graciously offered us the opportunity to have a "quick fit" for those who want to bring bikes. He will have you on the bike and give you 2 or 3 adjustments that you may want to make to fine tune your fit. This will NOT be a FULL fitting. However, you can have one performed(Tracy is having one), but it will be a paid service.

There will be trainers that you can trial different saddles.

Tom is going to give us a clinic on bike position, cadence, and stoke technique.

We can then have "refreshments" at Bailey's Pub across the street.

Bring your bikes and credit cards there will be some great deals.
I look forward to seeing you all there.

Tim

PS. If there is anything else that you would want to have available let me know.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that you should have a look at Bikesport's website before our shopping trip as Tom has some good articles posted. He recently posted this:

Just a reminder on Canada night at Bikesport tomorrow night. All are welcome. The Windsor group is arriving around 6:00pm. Chatham people? The bike clinic should start at 7:00pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

I know it's short notice - but I'm not going to be able to make it down.  I'm so sorry.  I just can't get out of here early enough and with the extra hour before we get to Windsor I'm worried if it's slow at the border we might be really late getting there.

HelenR was riding with me as well.

We're planning a trip down in the near future.  I'm sorry guys.

Tabbs, is there room in your van for my bike? I'm debating if I should bring it. Also could you please shoot me a PM reminding me of your address.

Sorry to hear that the Chatham group is unable to come. I was looking forward to meeting all of you and talking with Stef about Steelhead.
